Have an old LG phone that was used with Boost. There are no Boost logos on these phones like the old ones. This is a relatively recent phone, decent LG with a screen a bit bigger than the old Droid X.

My question - can I activate this with other prepaid carriers, like Virgin mobile? Or because it was initially bought for Boost (or as a phone compatible with boost?) it can only be Boost?

Thanks, appreciated.

First determine if it is CDMA or GSM.

The internet is telling me CDMA.

Then check if it is unlocked or, if not, if it is possible for you to unlock it.

Then find another CDMA, assuming the internet is correct, carrier and enjoy.

I did notice on startup (it was dead during previous posting), that it shows a Boost logo. But could you point me to some rooting resources since I can't seem to derive the model number of this phone...

You don't need to "root" the phone, you need to "unlock" it from the carrier. Sorry, I don't have any more information than that. Check for model numbers behind the battery.

The phone was lost months and months ago and replaced. It was a hand me down and I'm wondering, does that cause an issue since it was "lost" (not stolen".

its possible but it may not be worth if it may be able to activate on another prepaid cdma carrier ie virgin mobile, page plus etc but not a gsm carrier and the procedure to flash it to another carrier can be like 50-80 dollars personally unless its a high end phone i would just get another

Seems that it's an "LG Venice" Model "LG 730"

I can't seem to find compatibility charts with these other carriers.

Added 1 LTC reward, assuming this phone is capable of doing so, for getting this phone working on Virgin Mobile.

Youtube says with this phone code you can unlock any mobile phone from lg to other providers:

I hope this helps you out. Try at your own risk but if it works feel free to PM me for a LTC wallet to tip me Smiley
