http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5770864/

The producer / director of a popular movie series decided to pirate their movie themselves on ThePirateBay and request people to make donations if they like the movie.
Apparently they accept Bitcoin as donation in addition to PayPal.

Message from the director:

Quote
Thanks for taking the time to watch our new movie, "The Man from Earth: Holocene".

In order to make sure that every single person in the world who wants to see the  movie has access to stream or download it, we are uploading it ourselves to the filesharing community.

But just because the movie may be free to watch, it wasn't free to make.

That's why we're so grateful to all of you who visit http://www.ManFromEarth.com and make a donation -of any size- if you've watched the movie without paying for it up front.

It's a revolutionary global experiment in the honor system. We're asking people:
"If you watch our movie, and you like it, will you pay something directly to the people who made it?"

Please share *ONLY THIS FILE* and don't make any edits or changes. Also please don't post the movie to YouTube, or to any other for-profit sites where a third party could charge people to see the movie. That would not be fair, or in keeping with the spirit of what we are trying to do by sharing the movie with everyone.

Once again, we thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy:
"The Man from Earth: Holocene".

That is an interesting take, quite different from the conventional film industry. I will put the movie in my watchlist!

Has anyone seen this movie? How was it?

The movie mentioned in my post is the 2nd part. I have watched both parts and first one is awesome! If you want to watch both, you must start from the 1st part.

Here's the link to 1st part:

BTW, please consider donating something if you enjoy the movie. I already donated.

This is something new to my ears which even producers decide already to engage with bitcoin by means of sharing their movie into those common file sharing places. I got their intention which isnt bad at all. Thanks for the link posted and ill try to watch the movie and even i didnt like it  i would still donate. Cheers

We can safely say that it's a fresh approach so needed in our world of law abiding citizens bound by the rules. I remember when some game developers intentionally shared their games on torrents asking people to donate if they liked the game.
It's time developers and filmmakers stop taking things for granted and producing mediocre content with price tags that make you roll your eyes. Torrents aren't there to kill the industry, they are here to allow people to test the product before buying it, to reward originality and allow the audience, not the critics, to decide the value.

This is a good development though but I would be much more happy if its coming from either TNT, Netflix, WarnerBros and all of those other site but the PirateBay that have been accused for so many copyright infringements, it will be further interpreted that they use bitcoin to finance their activities and that is a bad image adding to the wrong impression that we are trying to correct. When you donate which is nothing wrong, it means its payment for other peoples hardwork that you get free of charge for a token which if everyone donate, such individual or group of individual behind that are multi millionaire over someone else sweat.

Yeah, initially they were accepting only PayPal. But as I was their fan, I contacted them via email and suggested to accept donations via Bitcoin and they implemented it the very next day.

It's good to see their open approach towards crypto and accepting my suggestion very fast! They admitted they're new to this crypto thing and don't know how these 'wallets' work, so their easy approaach was to use coinpayments gateway.

This is a smart approach almost anything that can be digitalized it is going to be copied at some point in the near future, and those that are pirating are not going to pay to get that content either but by doing this they can increase their profits with donations.
