Hi All!  Clearly my glasses need checked since it took me about 15 tries to register on this forum.

Just wanted to introduce myself here.  I have a few block erupter usb's on my desk as do my office mates and we just kinda thought it was a neat idea.  Though we're engineering grad students and not econ so maybe bitcoin isn't the best place for us to be having some fun, but it is fun!

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

welcome, and now that you're here, you have to wait 5 posts to be let out of the sandbox.

rediculous, but I suppose it stops the spammers.

I'd be more worried that it took 15 tries to register =)

You'll probably have a good time looking over the ASIC specs

I find it infuriating and ridiculous that every single website I've ever visited uses CAPTCHAs in completely the wrong way: they make you input a bunch of information, and then when you (inevitably) fail the CAPTCHA entry, you end up having to re-enter your password (and sometimes other fields) before resubmitting.

Instead the pattern should be: FIRST solve the CAPTCHA, THEN be directed to the actual registration page -- that way you don't have to keep retyping shit over and over. Submit once and it's done!

Edit: Hah! Irony of ironies -- First I tried to submit this post, and then I was sent back to the edit page with a red warning: "While you were typing, a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post." Okay, so I scroll down and look at the new post -- nothing worth editing my reply over, hit submit. Then I'm told I already posted, and can't resubmit for 360 seconds. @!##@#!

yep, the use of the captcha on any site needs to be used well, having to resubmit a page of data fields is a pain. All designers need to be aware of how the user experience will actually go.

Yes, although then you have to have a three strike rule or something, otherwise some stupid robot will try to bruteforce his way through it and that way lie DOS and other problems. Not that having to reenter fields stops those in the first place...

Now that i think about it calling it State-of-the-Art doesn't make a good argument and i have no others left.

Yeah, I know - one post!

Ought to be enough to make anyone run from the site screaming. It's almost as much of a commitment as marriage...

Edit: Can't spell site

If this post was useful, interesting or entertaining, then you've misunderstood.

I think the Captcha is part of NSA's profiling plan.  One try - born after 1990.  Two to five tries - born before 1990.  More than five tries - born before 1960.
