Can you mix AMD and Nvidia cards on the same PC (when mining of course)?

Also what watt PSU would I need for the (3) 1080tis and the (1) RX480
Running the 1080tis at 80% load only.

I have an EVGA GQ 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold

It appears the answer is yes for mixing, some threads below for reference.

For the power question, I believe it may come down to the power consumption of the RX480.  From what I understand, you may want to stay @ 80% load for PSU- 680W for 850W.  I would assume your current load is under 680W- 3 x 1080 ti @ 80%= 250W x 0.8 x 3= 600W; if so appears this leaves 80W to not exceed 80% threshold.  Not sure if 80W for the RX480 will yield the mining result you are looking for.  If it does, you are good; if not, may want to consider a 1000W PSU or possibly higher for future expansion- measure twice cut once as opposed to measuring once and cutting twice.

Replacing the PSU would cost me at least $180-$250 for a new one if I can squeeze it on to this one.
I could probably sell mine for a few bucks, but still an initial cost increase..

I will check out the forum links you provided and look for how much I can get daily with the RX480 to see if this is at wall worth the hassle.

Thanks!

Yes, you can mix cards with AMD GPUs with those that have Nvidia GPUs. It's relatively painless on Windows 7+ if done correctly. However, installing the necessary drivers on most Linux distributions tends to be more of a pain (though still possible).

The GQ line is one of EVGA's lower-tier series, probably done by HEC, so I'd be wary of pushing too far past 70-80% for 24/7 operation.

Additionally, the 850W GQ may run low on connectors, depending on how you configure your risers.

Recommendation on a 1000w PSU?

Was thinking a simple Corsair RM 1000w for $180...
It would pain me to spring for the HX at $250

I think the RX480 makes $2-3 /day max so it would take way too long to pay off the PSU upgrade before I am in the green.

The EVGA G3 1000W is my default for mid-level builds. I prefer it to the Corsair because I'm not a fan of the ribbon cable style (don't like is on my Corsair or Seasonic) and the cables just feel really high quality and have plenty of connectors in case you wanted to so a low power build like 8 1050Tis or something like that.

Starting to lean towards selling it.. not worth the hassle unless I want to build a PC just for the card in another room.
