Have you noticed the amount of threads and posts there?  I've been here for 4 years and the last few months it's getting completely out of hand.  I counted: in half an hour you get 4 (!) pages of new posts just in the ANN section.  4!!!   Every 10 minutes there seems to be a new ICO or coin.  This needs to stop, there needs to be some quality check.   Any suggestions?

They are also posting ICOs in the Project Development area, which is not allowed.

Just keep using the "Report to Moderator" link.  If you report enough you may get offered a mod job.  Smiley

It's impossible to check for the quality of every single ANN thread that is out there. Otherwise there will be a huge backlog and the moderators will have to work around the clock to maintain a standard of quality for ICO ANNs.

Plus, it's not against forum rules to create an ANN for your ICO, as long as you're not duplicating/spamming it across the board.

If you see any ICO threads outside of the announcements(altcoins) or tokens boards, you can report it.

If you report enough you may get offered a mod job.  Smiley

One of the admins. If you report enough, then you may get offered one. No guarantees.

I've previously suggested that ICOs have to pay some sort of fee to be able to make a thread in the Announcement board. This will sort the wheat from the chaff and at least will prove that they're at least willing to put some money behind their scam project. Far too much abuse is going on here because everything is free. Want two hundred accounts to sig spam and claim bounties? Sure, go right ahead. Want one thousand accounts to spam bump threads with boys? No problem. Want to create a crapcoin and pay an unlimited amount of users to spam it all over the forum with the coin you pre-mined for free? Standard practice. Rinse and repeat after your campaign has ended and staff are left to clean up the mess from these greedy and lazy scammers month after month. If people have to pay a fee they'll think twice about listing here but at the moment they have nothing to lose. Charging people to have a signature will instantly stop account farming and people having dozens to hundreds of accounts each because nobody would be able to afford it.

They are, but there are so many of these fuckers that there's only so much any one mod can do, and I think they're frustrated and a bit demoralized--and I'm sympathetic to this.  But I have reported a whole bunch of shitposting and copy pasting clowns who have gotten banned, so I know the mods are looking at reported posts and are taking action.   At the very least I feel much better having reported a shitpost and I get some psychological relief.

It's really the combination of every aspect of the system:
-sig bounties
-hype
-the freedom to create any ico/coin for free
-last but not least the absurd amounts of money to be made from noobs.

It must be frustrating for the mods that this forum is becoming a vital part of the mechanism that makes the whole cryptoscene look like the wild west. It was fun for a while but now it's getting out of hand.

But there are ways of doing quality checks. There are numerous sites analysing icos on different aspects like transparency, funds allocation etc. You can set out minimum criteria for icos and coins.  Now people look at the number of pages and 'the community' which is indeed mostly a pack of paid shills.

It's totally out of control I agree.
Remember when there was only a handful of coins and no more than a couple of pages total of altcoin threads.
Still worth looking for hidden gems.

Hi everyone,
I also have one thought on this, at the moment I want to scout this for new ICO's. As 99% of them are usually not such great investments(keeping things politically correct here lol), its kind of a hassle to try and find new announcements.

The announcement thread shows new things as well as 3 year old things, and theres no good way to filter it from what I could see. Would it be possible for threads to move to a different area if its one month old or something?  Announcements are new things in general, not discussions about coins that were released 3 years ago. It would help keep things a lot more organised in my opinion.

Thanks to the devs, I like this forum quite a bit so far Smiley

How about having people pay a small amount for posting, and a slightly larger one for an [ANN]?
That would do with spam no (although not with scam)?

Report the posts. Most of them are dealt with within a few hours and it seems that when a moderator/admin has seen the reports they are able to rapidly delete them, at least faster than you can report. There's literally thousands of posts which should be deleted in that section a day. mprep is fighting a losing battle as well as the other globals/admins which step in to help at times.

It doesn't matter on the project legitimacy it will be spammed regardless. If users can get free coins, via a airdrop for example they will spam that thread with both off topic replies and shitty posts like "Good luck". Although, this sort of spamming does happen in every single topic created in the annoucement, bounties and tokens sections there is a pattern in that promise of free coins via airdrop or some sort of other method results in more spam.

Honestly, the only way you would actually combat this is by limited users further and only allowing certain members to post in these sections. Then you are hurting those that are legitimately contributing to the thread. No one likes restrictions and you often see many higher ranked members suggesting newbies jail and other similar restrictions. Why? Because they wouldn't be limited by these restrictions so they only see it as a good solution and not the hassle it generates for those who actually want to contribute.

Again, this wouldn't even work. Take a look of my list here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2740829.msg28395872#msg28395872

That includes only members and up. Most of those linked have been spamming several threads in the altcoin section. This was only collected in 2/3 days. It isn't just lower ranked members which are the problem here.

You can quality check the original posts as much as you want. Most of them would likely get through because it isn't the thread itself that is the problem. It's the people posting in them (paid to do so or not) which is the major problem here. The mods can't manually go through all the posts and quality check and whitelist all of the replies which get posted in these sections.

I agree that board is a clusterfuck. I don't even go in there anymore.

Great Idea! it will also create an income revenue for the forum. This idea alone would finance a few more Mods on the forum.

It all comes down to the sig bounties with the minimum post requirements & 70-80 words (nonsense most of the times)
