There have been many conspiracy theories, hypotheses, assertions without any solid backing regarding the creator and creation of Bitcoin, from being a project of US government/NSA/CIA to Satoshi being AI, former SpaceX Intern speculating Satoshi to be Elon Musk, one world currency to even theorizing Bitcoin as mark of the beast. Yesterday Kaspersky co-founder Natalya Kaspersky claimed that Bitcoin was designed to provide financing for US and British intelligence activities around the world and that Bitcoin is "dollar 2.0." Among all theories, the NSA and Bitcoin is the most well-known, but as usual Natalya Kaspersky has nothing to back this dollar 2.0 claim.

Quote
The Bitcoin cryptocurrency was developed by "American intelligence agencies," Natalya Kaspersky, CEO of the InfoWatch group of companies and specialist in cyber security systems, said during her presentation at ITMO University in St. Petersburg.

Kaspersky was giving a speech on information wars and digital sovereignty. Photos of her presentation entitled "Modern technologies – the basis for information and cyber-wars," have been published on social media.

"Bitcoin is a project of American intelligence agencies, which was designed to provide quick funding for US, British and Canadian intelligence activities in different countries. [The technology] is 'privatized,' just like the Internet, GPS and TOR. In fact, it is dollar 2.0. Its rate is controlled by the owners of exchanges," one of the slides read.

She also claimed that Satoshi Nakamoto (the pseudonym used by its founder or founders) is the name for a group of American cryptographers.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

I think if bitcoin were a product of US intelligence, they would have made certain to install a figurehead puppet Satoshi with patents for blockchain technology that were undeniable. The lengths the establishment has taken to install Craig Wright as a false Satoshi and the strong efforts made by banks to patent the blockchain could be the best evidence of intelligence never being involved in the bitcoin development process.

Offhand, I can't think of a precedent for US intelligence developing anything like blockchain throughout their history. Certainly if they had the foresight to create something like blockchain, then they would also have had the vision to kill the project before it made any progress realizing the alternative it would provide users to centralized financial and economic networks.

Those conspiracy theories are all over the place. Many people say that Facebook is a CIA project, other people say that Google is CIA project.Perhaps all the internet giants are a product of the US government. The entire internet is a US government project. After all it was created by the US military during the cold war. Grin
Maybe CIA funds all the terrorists worldwide with bitcoins and that`s why the haters think that bitcoin is a money laundering and terrorists supporting cryptocurrency. Grin

Maybe this is just another conspiracy, but if you really take a look over it, IT REALLY MAKES SENSE.

But i do not know, a lot of people in here have been saying that bitcoin was created in order to "protect" the financial system after the crysis of 2008 on the United States.

And it makes sense, bitcoin was created on 2008 (at the end of this year) and it was launched on 2009, but no one was using it during this time.

If it was something that US was involved in why did they choosed Japan to be the dummy?

There are countries with which it could have been sorted out but why was the dummy named Satoshi?.. On a whim? I don't think so..

It's clearly evident that bitcoins are hampering the dominance of dollars, they for sure wouldn't plan to let the dollar die...or loose value .

Also when we closely observe everything, we can see the active involvement of Japan, how would you explain this?

Idk if the Theory is correct.

I'm also not buying this conspiracy. That's what you love about Satoshi, he's truly a genius, creating bitcoin and then went MIA. He played this card very well that why bitcoin is gaining popularity everyday. If he the project is of US intelligence, well they made it so bad that almost everyone wants to get a hands on it. And because its not only used by American or British or Canadian intelligence, but Terrorist as well. So its a complete failure from their end. Unless Satoshi come out of the open(from his grave), and declare that it's really a US intelligence project, I'm not going to believe on this conspiracy.

You realize of course you're quoting news from the Russian propaganda machine that serves 3 portions a day of news in which the US gubbermint is evil , right?

Maybe this is just another conspiracy, but if you really take a look over it, IT REALLY MAKES SENSE.

No it does not.

Half of the the adepts of conspiracies here say that the BTC is a creation of the CIA and the government,  while the other half says that the government is secretly at war with BTC. (the ratio might be 2:3, but that's beside the point)
And both sides are having tons of theories and examples and sources and insider info that if you read them for a week you might believe it yourself.

Those conspiracy theories are all over the place. Many people say that Facebook is a CIA project, other people say that Google is CIA project.Perhaps all the internet giants are a product of the US government. Bro, everything was made by the CIA, you nailed it Tongue
The CIA created bitcoin, helped bitcoin to gain awareness and then they decided to fight against it for.....
ps.
Did you know that the fall of Constantinople was a ploy by the CIA to make Europeans discover the US ?  Grin

Proofs or GTFO?

There had been a lot of interesting conspiracy theories surrounding bitcoin but none of it have provided substantial evidence about bitcoin being controlled by the government and most importantly, the CIA and Feds. I can't see how would that even happen in the first place knowing that the governments and the banks are bitcoin's worst enemies. Also, bitcoin generated a lot of publicity due to its value, which convinced a lot of people to switch from their lovely fiat.

If it's indeed a government experiment, it's an utter failure on their end.

That conspiracy theory above is way above board as it is giving more importance and 'intelligence' to the US intelligence community. I think it is an insult to Satoshi Nakamoto to ever believe such a claim. I better laugh at such an idea rather than really use my remaining intelligence to think about it.  Right now, since we can never be certain who is the man named Satoshi Nakamoto, the wild creativity of some people are springing up like mushrooms and these people are conjuring scenarios not worthy of time and discussion...in fact many of them are doing it just for joke and yet some media outlets are taking them seriously. Funny. Now, let's laugh it all altogether.

These are still speculations and considering it is a Russian news site (and we all know Russia's stance on cryptocurrencies) there's a possibility the article is biased. I have no doubts the NSA and other intelligence agencies in the US are capable of creating bitcoins but the question is, should they? Is having a way to fund clandestine operations enough reason? Sure, it would eventually become transparent and they may be able to track down tax evaders but with bitcoin's introduction the cryptocurrency industry was born. So either the US have nothing to do with this or this is another or their fuck ups.

I think it's a complete bullshit and speculation. Anybody can claim things, just like the scientologists claim the entities that created us will come back to take us away to their world. Do they have proof? No. Does Kaspersky have proof? No. If she wants to remain credible she should wait until she gets some instead of claiming things that she can't support in a discussion.

Russian is always looking for enemies. I do not exclude the possibility that the development of bitcoin was attended by the intelligence services but this was not done in order to Finance their activities. It's too primitive goal. Let Natalya Kaspersky will tell us who is behind this company and the purposes for which it was created.

This must be the stupidest project that they ever launched, because it is OpenSource. There are not a lot you can hide in the

Bitcoin protocol. It has been under global scrutiny for years and if they had any backdoor, it would have been discovered a

long time ago. Bitcoin XT tried to hide some backdoors awhile ago and it was quickly identified by other developers. That was

a Gavin/Mike Hearn initiative, if I recall correctly. Now Mike is working for a group of Banks and Gavin is supporting BCash?

While I believe Bitcoin was the creation of a single genius we cannot discard that some national agency was involved , after all the Internet was created by the US military and the Tor project as well, so it may be a case of something that they created and got out of control.

Well, one might say the internet is an upgraded version of telegraph communication. And the telegraph is nothing but an upgraded version of smoke signals native american indians used to send each other to communicate over a distance. And smoke signals are nothing but an alternate to carrier pigeon communication networks. It can be difficult to say someone invented something, many inventions are variations on things which already existed.

I think TOR started out as a legitimate project. But it may have been infiltrated by the state after they sent FBI and other intelligence to visit TOR developers(and possibly coerce them into installing backdoors in TOR for surveillance purposes). There are actual news stories about this, which aren't hard to find.

The US government isn't really in the business of inventing or developing anything. They provide funding. Then they take all the credit. But I don't think they actually do anything. The way governments typically do things is very similar to how NASA does things. NASA spends billions of dollars which go to waste with nothing being done. Then someone like Elon Musk comes along and achieves a lot more than NASA does with 100 times smaller budget.

The idea of governments being sources of innovation or problem solving is a myth. Most innovation and progress comes from independent invididuals. Looking at how governments treat bitcoin and crypto currencies, one might conclude that governments are barriers which oppose progress, innovation and change.

According to the well-known Internet entrepreneur and investor Alexander Muse, who refers to his sources in the Ministry of National Security, specialists still managed to deanonize Satoshi with the help of total listening systems PRISM, MUSCULAR and stylometry.

"But why? Why go to so much trouble to identify Satoshi? My source tells me that the Obama administration was concerned that Satoshi was an agent of Russia or China — that Bitcoin might be weaponized against us in the future."
