This idea is badass.  Excellent usage of the usps shipping label API, I had begun work on this myself.  Writing it in python though because I'm tired of seeing people hack PHP.

Do we get the same kind of postage discounts normally from shipping online and printing? I'm sure you get a cut, but I save almost a dollar by not doing it at the post office - will I still save money or is this just a method to use BTC to pay the same price at the post office?

You get the same savings as buying online. You also get access to USPS shipping services not available at the actual post office. For example, Parcel Select is an inexpensive ground service that's usually only available for businesses.
