I think now would be a good time for someone to setup a paypal alternative but use kickstarter to do so. It could be similar to the community banks we have here where people pledge to bring their accounts to it so they can gauge community interest.

Something like this needs a steering committee and a feasability study.

Ive thought for awhile why couldnt the internet have its own bank?

Everyone seems to be up in arms about visa,paypal and mastercard at the moment because of wikileaks. If a peoples bank started that wasnt controlled by one country and was owned by its shareholders worldwide would that have some traction?

Could you do this through kickstarter?

Where should the profits from such a project be directed to?

Well, there is a bounty I started for a bitcoin crowdfunding platform though you are most likely searching to crowdsource the task.
