If you bought IOTA, check your wallet. Chances are high that it is empty now.

Don't believe me? Open it and find out yourself that all your funds have been stolen.

How so? People were told to use online seed generators. Yes, a seed, online. Not from the wallet itself, no password, not protection at all. And one clever chap collected all the generated seeds and just cashed in.

What can you do? If it is still "Pending" then check out this posting from the official IOTA forum. If it says confirmed as it does for me, funds are gone.

https://forum.helloiota.com/9100/To-everyone-posting-with-stolen-balances

IOTA tries to blame people now for using the online seed generators. I think the party to blame is IOTA itself, for not putting a seed generator in their light wallet, and for not password protecting it.

This actually calls for class action as thousands of accounts were compromised!

Over $1.5billion stolen.

Really? How you know it was that much? This would be 20% of IOTA market cap.

That would absolutely cripple IOTA, you say it would be 20% of market cap but if that's the case I can see price falling as much as 80% or so. Such breaches if true really strike fear in to investors.

PSA: DO NOT USE ONLINE SEED GENERATORS self.Iota

Submitted 1 day ago * by myhrmansM - announcement

Lately we’ve been getting a lot of reports regarding people losing/missing their IOTA and people having outgoing transactions not done by them. These seeds were generated online using unofficial websites. IOTA has no official website to generate a seed.

NEVER USE AN ONLINE SEED GENERATOR!

If you see ads on websites promoting a seed generator, these are not done by the foundation. So even if they might seem real to the looks they are not. We cannot say this enough… never use an online seed generator.

If you know that you have generated your seed online... on any website, please move your iotas to a new seed as soon as possible.

Here are three methods to safely generate a seed: https://helloiota.com/generate-seed.html

Here is also a guide provided by /u/onehitwonderos/ how to create a bootable USB with the OS Tails and install the IOTA wallet on it: https://medium.com/@onehitwonder/creating-a-safe-environment-for-your-iota-wallet-and-seed-1fe5a563addb

Also, if you would like to check on your balance but are unable to log into your wallet for whatever reason (or do not trust the balance your wallet is showing you) you can check all of your addresses on https://thetangle.org/ or on the Tangle Explorer in the sidebar and add them up. If you do not keep track of your addresses, your withdrawal history from whatever exchange you bought from should have them.

God, that looks really bad. IOTA can suffer strongly after these happenings. I don't realise how such a big project with an enormous capitalization could allow to scam their users so easily? That cannot be understood...

It was 2 days ago. I was just shocked when I read it. My friend had a lot of money. I do not even know what his situation is. But this is just awful news. Scammers have stolen so many passwords. I do not even know how IOTA will cope with this situation. And how they will decide this.

OMG, I am checking my IOTA right now, thank's for the warning. I am sorry you and many others lost money on IOTA. I am not sure who told to use online seeds and on that depends who should be blamed (apart from the hacker). I was holding my IOTA on bitfinex. I know it bad to hold smth on the exchange but at the time I wanted to buy iota there were serious troubles with wallets showing zero deposit, so I decided to take the risk and buy it there. Fortunately, as I have just checked, my IOTA is still safe out there!

Huh, I was interested in that token, I liked the idea, and I wanted to invest some funds in that token, but something stopped me. Hope that team will find out a solution for this issue, otherwise nobody will be interested in this token.

I'm started to lost a faith in IOTA, I thought it was a great coin with a good concept. Even the developer's team didn't care about a visible bug. I believe it bad coin with a worse people in the backbone of the project.

Wallet phishing really is a pain, to make our self safe is to keep extra careful for when we need to put a sensitive information into any website or any platform, in order to protect our account.

It's such a shame for IOTA team, A lot of users already stolen by scammers. That is a massive shame for the IOTA team.

This why raiblock looks better than IOTA shit. Because the team doesn't even know how to maintain a lot of their users properly. What a big shame for IOTA FOUNDATION. My brother lost a lot caused by generate his seeds through online generators.

This is another heist perfected because someone didn't do his/her job the right way only to turn some people into more penury. I can't imagine how much fund have gone down the drain and there is nobody that would be held accountable for that. When people were generating seed else where, should they not have notified and issue adequate warnings for that? This is just making the crypto world less secure. The projects that are even trying to change situation are vulnerable while the others are not worthy of attention.

Wow crazy, always felt skeptical about not using a wallet through Ledger. I've used a couple wallets to get off the exchange and stake. Wish they were ledger supported.
