I'm not sure how reliable this info is, but it looks to have more than DOUBLE the Stream Processors that the 6990 has and draw significantly lower power as well. 

Shh!  If you listen carefully, you can hear the prices on 5970s and 6990s dropping.

Useless and false speculation. That article is from March long before AFDS where the new architecture was announced.
