If you don´t know what coins to mine you can always use nicehash and get payed in btc and then buy some coins you want, but whattomine is a good start like the previous poster said.

For 1st steps use whattomine or nicehash, with these services you will get average profit of common miner. For more profit you need to search coins manually. Perspective coins to mine is not famous. Don't forget that noone will tell real good coin cause of hashrate)
