Mount Prospect man in mail order marijuana case sentenced to probationA Mount Prospect man who told authorities he ordered marijuana by mail from California in order to sell it to make a living was sentenced in Cook County Circuit Court today to 24 months probation.
Fred Vukadinovic, 62, of the 0-100 block of North Marcella Road, pleaded guilty in Rolling Meadows branch court to possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. Judge Kay Hanlon told Vukadinovic she was giving him probation due to his background, including service during the Vietnam War. She could have sentenced him to five years in prison.
Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Clarke said U.S. postal authorities and Mount Prospect police intercepted a package containing more than a pound a marijuana in March and placed a tracking device inside. The package was delivered to his residence and when Vukadinovic opened it, police arrested him, Clarke said.
Vukadinovic told police he had been receiving pounds of marijuana by mail for more than a year from a source in San Francisco and selling it because he was out of work, authorities said.
