I don't care what any of you hooligans say about the government, but ISIS is on another level of evil and misguidance.

Most anti government regimes that succeed are almost always WORSE than the government they overthrew.

And who really cares about them? If someone sends donations to that group, those people really need to be busted, DOESN'T MATTER WHAT.

What kind of God are they representing? Of course that it is all a fairy tale.

I wonder how people get busted for using Bitcoin when it is supposed to have anonymity? Anyway, still good that a supporter was busted!

This goes into that argument between the balance of security and privacy. I think we can all agree that privacy is good, but reasonable security is necessary. Its hard for the Govt to stop people from sending BTC. However, this kind of a bust at least tries to discourage it. I say its better for anonymity because their are less ISIS supporters than good people out there.

You know damn well what god they represent, and that particular cult is well-represented on bitcointalk too.  People who believe in all these superstitions are delusional, to say the least.  I've recently been condemned by allah for tagging shitposters, and I'm sure I'm destined to burn in whatever hell these posters think exists for people who actually care about the quality of posts on bitcointalk.

*Ahem*

The media will likely blow this one out of proportion, since bitcoin has been big news as of late--but whether ISIS uses bitcoin or bricks of gold, it doesn't matter.  Dollar bills aren't tainted goods because they've been rolled up to sniff cocaine with, are they?  A lot of things have been used for bad purposes, but the provenance of a given form of money doesn't matter to most rational people, does it?

I wonder how people get busted for using Bitcoin when it is supposed to have anonymity? Anyway, still good that a supporter was busted!
Ohhhh...it doesn't have nearly the amount of anonymity that some folks claim.  There's no more Silk Road, is there.

As someone else has said, Bitcoin is not completely anonymous.

The woman had to have gotten the coins from somewhere, maybe even an exchange. She likely had the same assumption as you, that Bitcoin was completely anonymous, and the numbers reflected on transactions couldn't be traced back to her. I'm also sure that some intelligence agencies are monitoring ISIS Bitcoin addresses that pop up so they could go after their sympathizers, and it worked in this case. Once you have two end points like that, it shouldn't be hard for anyone to track you.

I'm glad she got busted because it dispels the notion that Bitcoin is perfect for terrorism. Also, anyone who supports ISIS is an idiot who deserves to be secluded from society.

She got busted its because she use it in a wrong way.Bitcoin for me is not illegal as long as you earn and use it in a good way.Even if she send fiat to ISIS she will get busted as well.ISIS is really a dangerous so goverment will monitor all the transactions that will connect to ISIS and they will all busted once caught.

I completely support your statement here. Because of these reasons bitcoin is getting a bad name in the global market. It is being widely used for money laundering and terrorism financing and that is what every governments want to curb down. These are strong points basis which a government can ban bitcoin and we have nothing to counter them. We are normal people who are trying to earn some bitcoins to live a decent life but these animals are making it harder for us.

This is a message to everyone that never think too much of the anonymity and because of that thinks that you can do anything you want. For them to have busted her means she must have been under surveillance for a long time and they have been watching her every move to the point of her making a donation. Now that they have caught her, she only succeeded in giving btc a more bad name. And to everyone, planning same thing, you don't know who is watching.

two things:
either this is a government oriented attack against bitcoin by spreading some bullshit news about some random incident and making the bitcoin part of it bold.
or there was really such an idiot to do this with bitcoin and not with the real currency that has been used for years to fund terrorists: US dollar. which is not only easy to obtain but also easy to spend and also impossible to track.
whereas bitcoin is hard to obtain, extremely hard to spend and easy to track.

I believe that the crypto community should support the fight against any terrorism, drug trafficking, slave trade and other crimes.  Criminals should not have a chance to hide using crypto currency.

It's really annoying to hear such news because this type of news is always trying to attack the reputation of Bitcoin indirectly. I know that these days Bitcoin is being used by terrorists and other organizations due to its privacy and nature, but unfortunately those who get trapped into such kind of stuff are illiterate and non-technical.

I feel bad for her because I think that her burst was planned to affect the reputation of Bitcoin, and she unfortunately became prey to that plan. I am really not sure about the exact story of that woman, but still what happened to her was horrible. And, it is somewhat an alarming news for those using Bitcoins for such activities. They should be stop all of their terrorism related activities, and should not use Bitcoin for any of their destructive intentions.

Bitcoin should be used for good activities only and those who think that Bitcoin is anonymous and untraceable are illiterates because they don't read enough and aren't into research at all. People should get proper knowledge about something before adding that thing into their lives.

I wonder how people get busted for using Bitcoin when it is supposed to have anonymity? Anyway, still good that a supporter was busted!

You can still be traced on the blockchain for transacting in Bitcoin despite your address offering you some form of anonimity. The transactions, both those that happened in the past and present, are recorded in the public ledger (blockchain) and shared for everyone to see. Once bitcoin transactions are linked to your IP, it is only a matter of time before you get busted by detectives.

Even more advanced form of covering one's track using a mixing service have been known to fail. If one is not involved in any shady deal, I do not see any reason why I should worry much.

One of the reason is anonymity, why governments of some countries doesn't legalizes cryptocurrency.
Governments concerns are terrorist funding and money laundering with bitcoin due to the nature of its anonymity. We all know this!

After this incident governments got a proven reason for not to legalize cryptocurrency. I am not talking about all the countries, at least some of them or maybe all of them  Roll Eyes

Few days ago I've seen in McAfee's twitter profile that a Nigerian terrorist group tried to raise fund through ICO.  Angry

More restrictions are yet to come for crypto world from all over the world.

This is FUD created by some government agents. The us government controls Isis and aL Qaeda, read online about how us government airplanes were attacking  syrian troops and defending Isis. The created Isis Al qaeda because many people learned about how the CIa was behind that conspiracy. They think you people are fools and in most cases they are right
Government terrorism is important for the enslavement of the world
Now people can be strip searched before getting onto a plane because of the fake terrorist threat
Now people can not move money how they want because the CIA has created terrorism
Now people can be arrested without cause because of their fake terrorism threats
Read about the us patriot act anyone breaking any law is a terrorist, seriously

The lady got busted because she use it in a wrong way. For me Bitcoin is not illegal if you earn and use it in a good and legal way. Though even if she send real money to ISIS she will still get busted as well. ISIS are a dangerous sect, so government will surely monitor every transactions connecting to ISIS and surely get busted.

Bitcoin is not anonymous. It is pseudonymous.

All transactions are public and can be viewed in the blockchain explorer. Your bitcoin address is your pseudonym - but if someone is able to establish that you own that address, they can track everything you do.

I think the FBI testified to Congress a few years ago that bitcoin was easier to track than cash.
