Simply because the government sees the bitcoin a scam , fraud and a threat to a currenct fiat currency the country had. Government are somehow restricting the people to use cryptocurrency and just protecting its citizens. It really depends on the government if what it will take to have an approach on a growing crypto society.

I think that the biggest threat to the government is some type of a terrorist organization that ends up being funded by cryptocurrency. I think that is all it would take for the governments of the world to clamp down hard on the crypto markets.

For me, bitcoin is prohibited by the government because they can’t control bitcoin and it will be complicated to track how is the person behind that address or user. The main reason why some state bans bitcoin it's because of their jurisdiction, laws, and seeing bitcoin use by some criminals. But not of government sectors ban bitcoin, because some state considers the excellent effect of bitcoin on their economy.  Smiley

I would like to hear real claims to the side of crypto-currencies from the governments of states and what they see as a threat to the national security of their countries. It is not the first time that many members of the government have announced this.

Government maintains monopoly of money supply which is routed through banks, to protect their interests tey will tend to harm their competition i.e crypto in this case by banning or claiming it to be a scam to laymen.

Quick attempt @ summary:

#1 Wealthiest demographics wield the most powerful political influence.

#2 Wealthiest demographics generally do not want young, hungry, upstarts starting a business in their garage which turns out to be the next apple or google.

#3 Small businesses have the potential to upset the status quo and could dethrone giants in banking, finance and other sectors. This implies those living on the top of the mountain could make some effort to maintain their reign while preventing others from climbing up the mountain after them.

#4 To some extent its in the wealthiest demographics self interest to maintain thire status quo, which implies keeping things like bitcoin which have potential to overthrow banking cartels, in check.

The technology world is proliferating and virtual currencies are booming, so many people think that Bitcoin is the currency that will survive and replace the dollar, I think not only does it replace the dollar That would change other currencies like Eru or sec, in other words, Bitcoin currently lacks in investors, many withdrew from Bitcoin because of the many risks.

Government wields power and money gives power (I don't personally like the term power in this context, but it is the truth). So, the fact that "we the people" can have our economic freedom (power) is a major concern for governments at this time. Once major of the super governments figure out to regulate it to their advantage, it will no longer be banned.

Of course the government wants to tax any activity on its territory. It is possible that somehow this will be implemented in the form which will suit both sides. Also there is a very large resistance from the bankers investment walk past. Personal opinion - the title of the only do not apply.

I believe they are trying to ban it both for good and bad reasons.

Some are trying to help people by regulating it, while others are trying to ban it because they fear the power it unleashes to people that are not under their sphere of influence.

Bitcoin is decentralized nature is increasing its use in criminal activities. Australia, USA, Japan have found use of bitcoin in drug trafficking, money laundering and also in terror funding activities. So these countries banned bitcoin from their economies.

They may want to ban it, but it is nearly impossible to carry on effective measures to implement that decision. In essence, they just don´t like people with too much economic freedom.

yes I do not think the government is banning bitcoin, but the government has not legalized this crypto currency as a means of buying and selling transactions in the country that has not legalized, until now my government has not legalized bitcoin currency, because they have not been able to regulate the determination of this currency

Oligarchs would not allow it because they fear of something that they dont have a control over it and it would impose a threat over their self interests.

This can be the reason why government want to banned bitcoin, because they can not get tax to those people who use it, tax are very important to government because this is a way to get money from people but how they can get tax if bitcoin is decentralized and no one handle this.

Based in my country, the bitcoin is not being taxed because the government officials didn't totally understand what is bitcoin but i think that after a few years, we can experience some tax that is need to pay because of using bitcoin because the government will not allow that because other people might abuse the features of bitcoin and make it as a gateway for money laundering.

Well, firstly bitcoin is nto still really banned: governments are just trying to control the system.
But this is normal: bitcoin has the potentail to be an alternative and untaxable currency.
Of course governments don't like it...

Maybe because that government sees bitcoin has a bad effect in their country which is the opposite on our perspective. We view bitcoin as a work with a great potential that is starting to unleash.
