I am having a problem recovering my account after 05/2015 hack. I've been inactive reader since 06/2012, and haven't used my account for a few years. I assume that after the forum was hacked my old password stopped working. When I try to recover my password via forum's interface, I receive the following error:

An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry, this account has not yet been approved. If you need to change your email address please click here.

The link in the message leads to a blank page with a message

I have registered a new account, but I'd really like to recover my old one, for the sake of my user ID.

Whom should I write to get my account approved, and be able to recover the password?

Assuming that you already posted a bitcoin address on the forums, you can sign a message and send it to Cyrus as instructed here. If you can't do that, I suggest you stay with your new account.

If you already posted you Bitcoin address on other post , maybe you can try to sign from your bitcoin address which is in use at other post. Check here for instructions https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0.

Just in case it's a good idea to keep a page containing your bitcoin address on a third party like archive.io or https://webrecorder.io/. Good luck!

I didn't post any messages from my old account, so I cannot go with the route you suggested. And I don't need to change my email address, I just need to send request to a moderator to "approve" my account. Can anyone point me to the steps I need to take to recover my old account?
