It has been almost 5 weeks since mtrlt started working on a GPU program to mine Primecoins.  In order to motivate him to work faster, he asked for donations from those interested in the project.  While mtrlt has made some progress reports thus far, it is hard to follow them as his thread was starting to fill up with off-topic comments that had nothing to do with his work.  He then created a new thread to make reports, but closed it when the off-topic posts continued.  He has been silent since his last report nearly a week ago.

In other news, detractors of mtrlt have been flooding the internet with supposed facts that draw a very different picture from reality.  One poster claims mtrlt has run off with "7 months of average US income".  We checked into this claim and found that th poster thinks the 'average US income' is minimum wage.  We ran a study on the posters title to his thread, and many people disagreed with his stated comment that "he was just reporting facts and not opinions".  We will keep you updated as more news breaks.

In related news, primedigger started a thread titled "So, why is porting primecoin mining to the GPU so difficult?".   We read through his article (which can be found at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279194.0) and found some very interesting information.  While it is too lengthy to discuss at length here, we encourage our readers to go and check it out, I feel there is a lot of information there that may explain mtrlt's silence.

We've come to the end of our show for the night, thank you for reading and good night.

Much better report than the "other" thread that intended to distribute the same information in a more hate fueling manner.

We must have faith, maybe he went on vacation for 2 weeks and didn't want to say "hey guys I'm going to be gone for a while why don't you all go rob my house"

Good Evening!

Our top story today continues to be the mtrlt situation.  Earlier today I pointed out that a poster had made a statement about mtrlt having received 7 months of average US income, this posters name is ReCat.  In response to my report I received these comments from ReCat:  "Average US income was assumed to be minimum wage due to the general state of the economy. This was an error on my part, and I acknowledge it."  "I never called myself a journalist. Don't put words in my mouth." and "Well, there is nothing more for me to say, because your whole debunking-of-all-my-facts streak was just correcting one erroneous statement I made. All other of my facts that you speak of as if false that I have made are correct as far as we are concerned.".

This reporter *is* concerned with getting all of his facts straight, so we looked into ReCat's accusations.  This is what we found:

1) On Aug 21st at 8:10:55pm ReCat made these statements:  "It has now been one month and three days since he created the thread, he has 75 of our BTC.", "We still have no GPU Miner. We might have been BFL'd." and "I place no opinion on this subject"

2) Later that same day ReCat made this statement:  "Anyways. I know that the guy is capable of making the mining client. Much in the same way BitSpend was capable of properly processing orders and BFL was capable of shipping a couple of miners. That doesn't automatically equate to legitimacy. This could orchestrate a perfect scam. Gain trust doing legitimate work, then use the trust to steal."

3) By 9:48pm ReCat was asked the following questions:

Isn't this like the third or fourth thread you've created on this subject?
How do you get he scammed you? Did he give a date of delivery?
Prosecute him? Seriously? Are you retarded?
Furthermore you have given absolutely zero proof you donated anything in the first place.

4)  Here are ReCat's responses to the above questions:

1. First thread, the other thread was related but it was not this subject.
2. I did not say he scammed me.
3. I am speaking hypothetically.
4. I never said that I donated anything. I am just a reporter, reporting the facts.

5) ReCat was later heard to say "Furthermore, I have not shouted "scammer". I asked the question, and gave it no answer." and "If Mr. Mtrlt ends up being a scammer, it does not affect me in any way shape or form. I'm not trying to rip any BTC back outa him cause I didn't give him any BTC."

6) Early this morning ReCat was also quoted as saying "This is what the people who gave him nearly ten thousand dollars didn't realize. their money is gone, and they assumed too well of him."

7) Anyways. Yeah. That's minimum wage. The wage of every burger-flipper, cash-register person, and waitress you see every day.

Cool Another poster was hard saying the following to ReCat: "You are comparing some high tech coding with a minimal wage from someone whos doing nothing!!!"  to which ReCat responded:

"List of jobs that pay minimum wage:
Certified Nursing Assistant - Self explanatory
Child Care Provider
Farm Worker - Spreading pesticides to crops, removing weeds, harvesting plants and overall taking care of things that overall are vital to getting you the food you eat every day.
Emergency Medical Technician - The people who answer 911 calls
Automotive Service Technicians - The people who fix your cars.
Income Tax Preparer
Recreational Protective Services - Lifeguards, ski patrol personnel and other people who watch over us while people are swimming.
Casheirs - The people who make all of your purchases of beer at walmart, burgers at mcdonalds and whatnot quick and easy.
Janitors - The people who clean up behind all of your messes at work, restaurants, and stores, as well as the people who clean up your diarrhea that clogged the men's restroom toilet

It goes on a lot.

I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out the facts. If you can't handle the truth, deal with it."

9) ReCat was later heard to say the following:

"These are well-known minimum-wage jobs. Google it.

$8.00 full time (40 hours per week) is $320.00 per week = $1,280.00 per month.

Although, assuming minimum wage is 8 dollars an hour is innacurate. It varies by state, and $8 is around the highest you'll find in any state. But the federal minimum wage is 7.5. (I think)"

10) Yet again, i another response, we hear ReCat say this: "I didn't say the job is overpaid. I said that because the job earns so much, it should be absolute top priority."

11) In a longwinded response to questioning, ReCat made the following statements:

"This is true, I didn't donate a dime. (Partly because I didn't have a dime to donate at the time - I may have donated if I did - and If I did I would have regretted it, Big time)

Mr. Mtmrlt just got on my nerves, and I think that there is a possibility he scammed my fellow bitcoiners as well, and so, this is why I created the thread. I thought it needed a discussion place, too.

But the single biggest reason I created this thread is because I found it VERY suspicious that:

1. He didn't want people to know how much money he has gotten. Maybe so that other people go ahead and send him more...??

2. Now that people found out, he closed threads and deleted posts, removing all evidence. He even removed the original BTC donation address, making it difficult for people to see how much money he has received!

3. He called my stating of simple objective facts, completely lacking all and any judgement or negative statements towards him "whining", which I suspect is simply made up nonsense to cover up his past actions.

4. If he was legit, He'd come to this thread and make everything clear to all of us. But he does not.

All of this put together... isn't it just flat out suspicious?

I'm sorry Mr. Mtmrlt. I supported you at first, but now you have lost my faith."

12) Yet another ReCat quote: "He hid the BTC address after people started getting unhappy because they found out how much money was in that BTC address, then he created a new thread where he removed all posts that pointed out the blockchain.info link."

13) And yet another"  Please quote the places where I was whining, places where i'm posting numbers and other facts don't count, and it's normal for me to be a pussy, because that's just another word for cat. (see my avatar) I'll only really take my advice with people who I think deserve it."

Well friends, *this* reporter is more than happy to take up the challenge.

Let's start with #1.  From Mr ReCat's statements I can see "OUR", "WE and "WE", yet from 5) we see him saying "I didn't give him any BTC".  While I am not sure how things work in your world Mr. ReCat, in mine the terms OUR and WE indicate personal involvement.  Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that already blows your statement about "one erroneous statement I made"

In statement #2 ReCat lumps mtrlt into the same category as BFL and Bitspend.  Correct me if I am wrong readers, but is this a fact or an opion?  You decide.

In statement #4 ReCat says "I am just a reporter, reporting the facts" yet in response to my first report, he said "I never called myself a journalist. Don't put words in my mouth".  Now, according to my information sources, "A journalist collects, writes, and distributes news and other information" and "A reporter is a type of journalist who researches, writes, and reports information to present in sources, conduct interviews, engage in research, and make reports."  This reporter concedes that while you called youself a reporter, which is a type of journalist, it was wrong of me to think of you AS a journalist.

Statement #6 disturbs me greatly.  "their money is gone, and they assumed too well of him".  I have been unable to confirm this as a fact, can any of my readers shed some light on this one please?  I'd hate to think I could have missed this fact while I was running around.

In #7 the statement "The wage of every burger-flipper, cash-register person, and waitress you see every day." again disturbs me.  I stopped at Red Lobster, a restaurant I frequent regularly and inquired of the waitresses there about their income.  I was shocked to find out that they made well over minimum wage!  The person behind the cash register compounded my shock when they also informed me they made more than minimum wage.  I ran over to Target... the cashier told me the same thing, as did the cashier at Home Depot, Lowes and Sears.

#8's list of minimum wage jobs again shocked me.  According to http://www.indeed.com/salary/EMT.html the average EMT wage is $36,000 per year or $18/hr.  On that same site it told me Automotive Service Technicians average $38k per year!  I looked more... 35K, 48K, 30K, 39K, 17K, 22K.  One job actually fit ReCat's statement.

#9 sees ReCat informing us that "Although, assuming minimum wage is 8 dollars an hour is innacurate. It varies by state, and $8 is around the highest you'll find in any state. But the federal minimum wage is 7.5. (I think)"  According to http://www.dol.gov/whd/minimumwage.htm, the current Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25.  I guess ReCat was too tired from all of his writing to actually look it up.  After all, it took me 15 whole seconds to google "what is the federal minimum wage".  In addition, thank god he knew nothing about The Fair Labor Standards Act, which requires a minimum wage of $2.13 for tipped workers... if he had he'd probably have told us that mtrlt had earned over 2 years of wages.

#10 again disturbs me... I searched through over 3 months of comments made by ReCat and could find no mention of "top priority".  Again, I beseech my readers to help me out here, I absolutely hate to leave any fact unchecked.

In #11 we see "Mr. Mtmrlt just got on my nerves, and I think that there is a possibility he scammed my fellow bitcoiners as well"  ReCat apparently has an undocumented disagreement between himself and mtrlt.  In adherence to the facts, I would like to point out that "I think it's possible" is an opinion and not a fact, so ReCat's assertion in his OP about "I place no opinion on this subject" yet again seems to be blown out of the water.  Can teh readers please chime in with their thought?  Thanks!

#12 also disturbs me.  mtrlt HID is BTC address.  I went to the first thread made by mtrlt and his address, sadly, was gone, but in it's place was a link to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=273637.  I clicked on this and there in plain sight WAS mtrlt's BTC address.  I copied it and checked with blockchain.info and found it to indeed be the address he had originally posted in his first thread.  I would give ReCat the benefit of the doubt on this one if it was not for the fact that he had already listed this second thread in his OP.

#13 is the reason why I dedicated myself to the topic tonight, I hope my readers have found insight in my words.

Normally I would have ended here, but one of my researcher had found this from a statement made by ReCat back on Aug 14th and I felt I just had to share it with you all:

"I believe it is against forum rules to disclose personal information in public."

While this reporter understands that by the simple posting your Bitcoin Address you are allowing any interested party to peruse the block chain and find out your transaction history, I also feel that the information found within is private, and by his own beliefs as stated on Aug 14th, logic indicates to me that ReCat has broken forum rules.  whether this is true of not is not for me to decide.  My job is only to supply you with the facts and let you come to your own conclusions.

Thank you again dear readers, and good night.

*footnote*  I apologize for any typos as it is late and I am not taking the time to proofread my copy.  I hope you can understand.  Thanks.

Waiters and waitresses often make more than min. wage.

My friend works at a local restaurant and every night he would pull in around $80 (he works for ~4 hours each shift).

Basically, tips make up a large portion of their salary. And since (most people) tip around 18%, I'd say that's a pretty decent income.

And I believe ReCat has good intentions, but his arguments got a bit convoluted and contradicting.

True.  Unfortunately my overall thought was his "one erroneous statement I made. All other of my facts that you speak of as if false that I have made are correct as far as we are concerned." comment.  In addition, some points needed other points in order to show his mis-stated 'facts'.

I have never met the man, I have never had dealing with the man, I did not donate to him.

That said, I have done programming in the past.  While GPU programming is outside my league, I have sufficient math background and knowledge to know what is entailed in the fermat testing that he is attempting to port over.  If you were to ask me, to quickly and successfully port this over, you'd need a person with at least a masters degree in mathematics along with a person with intimate programming knowledge of GPUs.  Since I doubt mtrlt has both of these things, I forsee a lengthy challenge in getting this ported over.  Computers can easily deal with the large numbers we have here:  While saying 2^255 does not seem big, as a binary number (which is the easiest way to deal with large numbers in a GPU), we are talking a number that looks something like this:

1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 111111111111111111

And that is the smallest number primecoin deals with.  I'm not going to show you 2^2000, but FYI it's almost 8 times as long.

The GPU has no registers that allow a number this large to be calculated, so the program involved must break this down into smaller chunks and perform the calculations and then put them back together again without error.

Mainly, I do not suffer fools gladly.   Hmmm, I should make that my signature.

Actually it's 1 and 254 zeros but that's just nitpicking.

Anyway, if the primality test is the bottleneck, there are devices that can have stupidly large registers and most are sitting idle because lol ASICs. Has this been discussed/tested? Just a thought, I'm not an expert, don't bash me with "lol n00b, fan-out problems"  Grin

When it gets to BFL status then start jumping up and down

It wont happen over night but it will happen Cheesy

Give it another 3 weeks and then i think maybe you can start making a LITTLE noises

BTW I earn after tax $660 per day 12 month contract rate as a programmer.... & the going rate is ~ 1000 per day to hire a Good coder (this is in australia & not even the US )

SO long story short you have paid for  1 week & 2 days work....so I would be quit if I was you otherwise he is justified to ask to be paid more !!...lolz

Good Morning Readers!
While I'd like to be able to report some news this morning, all has been quiet here of late.  There has been no word from ReCat explaning the discrepancy in his 'facts' as we reported yesterday, though several readers did kindly make posts to show support for both sides in this story.  The ball as they say is in ReCat's court and we await his response.

Along those same lines, we reached out to mtrlt and asked if he would be ameanable to answering a couple of questions.  Last time I checked he had not been online since that request was made.  We'll keep you updated.

That is all we have for now, thank you again gentle readers for following us.

Alright. I'll clear things up.

I realize that this behavior is probably for the most part: unwarranted, and immature.

Truth is. I'm bitter. Very bitter, especially recently with personal events. The reason why I initially created the thread is not really because I have much against mtrlt. I'm just bitter, a bit cynical too. There is an unreleased anger inside of me. Ever heard the phrase, "some men just want to watch the world burn"? Plus, mtrlt got on my nerves when he deleted the initial post I made. (As that one was legitimately stating facts, and then putting a funny image there to top it off. It just made me giggle.) All these things combined motivated me to create that thread. I did not intend to lie in the thread, but my bitterness has biased me to make the thread terribly biased.

I acknowledge that I'm probably an idiot, and an ass, and whatever else most people called me after creating that thread. I got it. I've heard it for many years from the voices inside my head. It does not surprise me by any means.

I'm not asking for forgiveness, since it changes nothing. I'm just making it clear that I acknowledge and accept my defeat. My bitterness is just an aimless destruction of everything in my path in whatever means possible, without reason.

I'm sorry about it, nonetheless.

I have closed the thread since it serves no purpose.

Thank you for informing us of the situation.  I know I for one can agree that life can affect how you treat others.  I often wish I could go back and apologize to the people that dealt with me when I was going through my divorce, I even got sent to anger management because of it.  I truly hope that things work out and that you are able to shed your bitterness in the future.  Godspeed.

I do not suffer fools gladly... "Captain!  We're surrounded!"
I embrace my inner Kool-Aid.

Thank you for understanding.

I do not think much will change with me in the future. I will just try to remain quiet and be less of a asshole for the remaining years.

Apologies to everyone. Except to mtrlt if he actually IS a scammer. Tongue

Cheers.

Apologies to everyone.

I don't think you owe apology. It was high quality read.

I would definitely read again.
