What do you want to buy bitcoins with,and about how much?  If it's not that big of a price you can just buy off people here on BTC with many ways: Moneypak, cash, in person, paypal (careful) credit card (maybe) and much more, just go to the currency exchange section, go make your own topic there or buy in others.

The problem is that right now, if you don't read all of this stuff and do end up buying some Bitcoin, you will probably lose them to a hacker or computer issue.  If you want to take the chance, https://localbitcoins.com/ is probably the quickest way to get your hands on some, depending on where you live.  Otherwise, you have to send money to one of the exchanges and then buy the Bitcoin on the exchange.  Mining is not really an option anymore unless you invest a ton of money in mining equipment.  I wouldn't trust individual people selling Bitcoin online.

Those are way too expensive. The price for one of those with BTC1 loaded is like BTC2.25. I'd rather just buy bitcoins through eBay. https://www.flatbitcoin.com/ is also good. I used them twice without any problems.

Uh ... not exactly making me want to buy now. I read this stuff was secure ? prbly will try small amounts first. thx for advice.

It is as secure as you make it or as insecure as you make it.  If you follow best practices like encrypting your wallet, making backups, only using private keys once, etc. there is nothing more secure out there.

I found the safest and most reputable entry point into the bitcoin world is through bank --> Dwolla --> CampBX.  You have to get through the first 31 day evaluation period of course, but I think it's worth the wait. During that period, you can buy/sell btc with in the CampBX exchange, you just can't withdraw until after the first 31 days. I had a great experience getting started with this method - I learned quickly how to do limit sell/buys, dark pool orders. They also offer margin. Good experience. I recommend it.
