Their page is just guessing at your hashrate based on how fast you are submitting shares.
If you are unlucky, and find fewer than average shares, they will report a lower hashrate, if you are lucky, and find more shares than average, they will report higher hashrate.
Over the long term, it should average out.

after a while it will even out and get closer to your actual hashrate.

It's just software doing math incorrectly. I have seen it report double or half of my hashrate in the dashboard, but the number of shares accepted and payout are always correct.

One time I flipped my difficulty on BTC Guild to 256, it got a few shares and said my hash rate was over 7GH. All from a little block erupter =)

it's all based on the shares you submit on their end. Your machine is reporting more accurately.
