So I have a couple Linux isos laying around on my computer. Would mining through a VMware machine affect speeds, or is it even possible? Just wondering...

It would definitely affect speeds, wouldn't even consider it tbh as most VMs emulate the graphics card, which means you would artificially cripple your setup..

the best thing will probably be to get a lightweight live linux and run the miner through that,
or install it on your USB-Stick so it doesnt reset everytime you boot it

Although i have never tried it, I dont see why it wouldnt work with usb hardware (like usb erupters).  Even a rasberry Pi is enough to run the mining software.  If you end up trying it, let us know how it turns out.

We have tried some cpu mining with Vmware server.
and i must say the performance loss was minimal . we used a i-7 core with virtualisation options

Gpu mining in our case was a no no because vmware server does not support more than 32mb of video memory for Ati/Amd cards.
I personally think this will lead to a huge performance impact. as virtualisation for videocards is not fully developed/supported yet.

Alright, no reason to not try it out, I'll let you know if I ever do it.
