Hello,

Sorry for a newbie question but I cant find any info on this, anyway not that I understand.

I have a paperwallet with a small amount of bitcoins 0.0042650

I got the info that I can sweep it in the electrum wallet, well transfer it from my paper wallet to my Electrum wallet. But I get a long error information.

Shouldnt it be possible to transfer it to my Electrum wallet from my paper wallet?

Once again, im new at this and trying to learn about it.

/Mle

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Sounds like (due to the high fees) what little BTC there is on your paper wallet is so small that after the fee is taken off... only a tiny "dust" amount is left over. Most nodes reject any transactions that attempt to create dust outputs as they're essentially less than worthless... as they cost more to send than they're worth.

was the amount you have 0.0042650 or 0.00042650? Any input less than about 0.00045000 or 0.00050000 BTC is pretty much dust these days... as a standard transaction with the recommended fees of 240 sats/byte will need at least 0.00046000 in fees! Shocked Shocked

Better make a new Electrum Wallet file and select the option (4th): Import Bitcoin Addresses or Private Keys
Paste your paper wallet's private key in the box then proceed.

The only drawback here is that you will not get the seed phrase of that wallet.
Your backup options would be the wallet file itself or your private key.
But you can import more addresses (private keys) if you want.
Since you imported a private key, you can spend the funds from that imported address.

Advise for a newbie: Double-check the site where you got your Electrum wallet. There are fake/copied electrum sites in the web, be careful.

Well presuming his amount is correct, then that would amount to about $50 at todays price. <$10,500> so there should be more than enough to cover the miners fees. The fees on my Electrum wallet is usually very low in comparison to other wallets, so it should not be the case with this.

The fact that the error point to "dust" might mean that the miners fees are set at the maximum rate. I cannot remember if these fees are set dynamically or manually, but you might try to reduce the miners fee, to see if it would sweep the Private key.

Miners care about the fee per byte (or kilobyte). This is the total fee divided by the number of bytes in a transaction, such as 40 satoshis/byte or 0.0004 bitcoins/kilobyte. Use this https://bitcoinfees.info/

Remember, once the Private key is exposed to the Internet, we regard it as being compromised.
