Period of warranty: Graphic Cards : Due to the significant increase of inappropriate use of GEFORCE GTX graphic cards in applications such as (but not limited) cryptocurrencies mining, data mining, mining farms, PNY reserves the right to not accept a return under warranty.

Nothing new. if you mine you void the warranty on your card. Is stated by several gpu manufacturers. This doesnt mean they'll stop offering warranty coverage altogether for normal use. As they'll face legal issues for it.

how can they do that in the US i don't think they can yet . just don't tell them what happen or why .  honestly i think there is more to it then just using them for mining i can see them jacking up the price a lot now ...an there gonna use that as a excuse ...  .  it's out of control .. or they maybe trying to kill mining by offering GPU at a high price with no warranty an yea with trump in office right now there getting a free ride to ripe us off by trumps admin changing some of the accountability and customer laws.

How the fuck can a company say what you did with your video card? Fans break, things over heat ect ect.

The fact that wording is there makes me want to stay away from that company.

I predict they will start offering 6 months now. Stores won't put extended warranty on it either because of the shortage

What we will start seeing is a type of BIOS fuse like some Android manufacteurs have to see if a phone was rooted before.

SO if you flash your bios, you blow the fuse and they can tell you bios modded it to mine with it.

Because right now as far as I know, its impossible to tell if it was used by mining.

And honestly mining uses less stress than people who overclock/overvolt their GPU inside a computer case without any intake/exhust fans.

exactly, with adequete cooling and low core clock and undervolt
the cards should not be dying in less than 3 years.

maybe pny and other other lame companies need to make better products?

microcenter is price gouging. And they wont honor the warranty anymore. I refuse to pay for a card without a warranty. A company should stand by its product. What microcenter is doing should be criminal

Why does Microcenter care about warranty or not?

When in fact they are not the ones honouring it, its the manufacteur.

Maybe you are talking about some additional 3rd party warranty that some stores offer. Usually for "no hassle in store replacement"

I also do not see how they can consider mining as an inappropriate use of GPUs. Every retail box you look at has OpenCL or Cuda support listed right on it, and mining is a simple application utilizing one of those standards. With the increase in their profits due to mining they should be putting a few more dollars into the production of their cards and not worrying about reducing the warranties.

This is kind of like biting the hand that feeds them as they love the profits coming in from mining interests but are mad about the uptick in warranty requests. Most failures are due to cost savings from using slightly less capable PCB components, usually capacitors or voltage regulators and such, and spending a couple of dollars extra during manufacturing would all but eliminate most of these problems.

Also ensuring adequate application of thermal compound between the heatsinks and heat producing components would help, but the point is a few tweaks and spec changes would eliminate most of these warranty problems from the start. The problem is they got so used to shipping mediocre products (as even intense gaming rarely comes close to the demands of mining) for so long that now when people actually find a way to utilize the cards power in its entirety, they start blaming misuse instead of addressing the root cause. Once again, their attitude is even more ironic as it is the very "misuse" they are complaining about that is bringing in the windfall profits they are now enjoying.

When this does blow over, with attitudes like this they will not only have alienated miners, but also the gamers they claim they are so concerned about.

Seriously they should put recommendations on using 75% PL, how it reduces wear on the fans and make our investment last longer/less prone to failures.

Inno3D is another company that had a bright label on the packaging, saying warranty is void if it was used for mining. And their inno 3D twin x2 1080ti is the worst 1080ti model I encountered, even worse than FE. The cooling is rubbish, some hitting 80+ degrees at 70% PL in my server case, while FE cards hit 65 degree, Evga sc2 hit 60.

When mining cools down, mining farms will still continue ordering hundreds of cards, but guess which company they will be avoiding. That's right, PNY, Inno3D and any company with substandard quality and warranty.

Morons that max cards knowing they can rma it caused the issue.

I would hope all companies write this in ,but offer a mining warranty for $100 usd.

I have owned more then 400 gpus and under 10 rma  since 2012

Cause I simply run cards under 70c and fans under 70%

SO if you flash your bios, you blow the fuse and they can tell you bios modded it to mine with it.

So by your statement it will happen only to amd users cause only amd gpus can be modded. So as long as gaming gpus can mine then nvidia is a safe bet cause there is no way they will say if it was used for mining or gaming.

They can't void warranty either way.

Say I write myself some OpenCL program that basically has a purpose to "Find the first trillion prime numbers...."

Its not a game... its not mining... will my warranty get voided?

The warranty is still there, they are saying they will not honor it if they think you are mining.  Basically if you call them up and say your 17 GTX 1080 ti gaming cards have shit the bed they will tell you to take a hike.  My advice is to not admit to mining if you have to process a warranty.  Also, some states have consumer-oriented laws in place to protect against this kind of stuff.  For example, the state of Maine is very consumer-friendly.  Most things have a 4-year warranty regardless of what the manufacturer says.  lol.

This is really getting crazy. This would be like a car manufacturer refusing to honor the warranty as their ideal of "proper" usage is only for little old ladies who only drive a few miles a week, such as 2 miles to church on Sunday, 1 mile to the grocery stone on Monday, 5 miles to the Dr. on Wednesday and 2 miles for bingo on Friday. So you show up at the shop and tell them you drove your brand new car to your relatives house 2 states away and back last week and now your engine is knocking they claim you used in in an application that they deem is inappropriate and you are now on you own to fix it.

As I stated before, they gladly are raking in the increased profits, AMD and Nvidia's stock are both up as well as many of their downstream partners such as PNY, but they are refusing to service the very people bringing in the profits. As someone already stated, if you do need warranty work the last thing I would tell them is you use the card for mining. Also don't try and RMA a bunch of cards at a time.

well, I think it is easy enough to do for them
they can add into bios a counter which count how many hours gpu is working of full speed
so once its value become like 2 month 24 hours  of non stop activity of GPU- they will declare this card - a mining card and hence refuse to honor the warranty
sad.

Its legal jargon for the most part. they must state it so if they do deny you warranty coverage they can show you where they stated it.
If you mod your bios e.g they'll know obviously. I think prevention is better than the cure so take care of your cards dont run them at 100% fan speed and clean them off with compressed air often. General pm goes a long way. To be honest mining cards have 3 months warranty and its to cover those who torture their cards. So as far as theyre concerned use case matters.
