Have been creating a plan for a social network like Facebook using cryptos. Does anyone have any ideas. I feel social networks , since most of their value is created by users should end up paying users. If the payment can be in cryptos all the better. I am not interested in creating a new blockchain. There are quite a few blockchains floating around. Any ideas?

don't we already have something like that?
it is called Steem and if you ask me it is not such a great idea to add "payment" to these platforms. it makes them spamy. for example if i see a link explaining something on steemit.com i automatically ignore it because my first thought is that it is posted for monetary gains. and it is true for 90% of the posts i have seen so far.

however if you can make it a real decentralized place where nobody can control anything (not a website!) then it can be different.

There's a really good one that has been doing a great job of rewarding users, both content creators and curators it's called Steemit, and on the blockchain it utilizes the cryptocurrency STEEM, which is on a bunch of big exchanges already. Instead of like Facebook where you're the content and they make all of they money off you.

I think we already have something like this if I'm not wrong, ( i forgot the site btw)
Anyway i really like if this social media is decentralized, so user can post anything without being bothered by the owner of the site, and the privacy is most important here yeah you know most social media like facebook or Instagram they're making money with our data, believe it or not.

I have seen Steem. It looks like thhe crypto equivalent of twitter perhaps.  Now I understand the argument that it will be full of spam. But all forums have measures to reduce spam and it should work for this as well. This forum for example. Perhaps if a person is downvoted continously it becomes more difficult for him to post or something like that. The persons timeline would be limited to friends only so if someone spams he can be removed maybe surreptitiously. But Steem grows by arithmetic progression. If we can incentivise participation growth rates can be improved.

Why does a social network need to be created that restricts the affinity to Bitcoin or crypto currency? You can find Bitcoin groups on Facebook. You can find Bitcoin or crypto currency meet ups.

Or are you talking about a token for posting? Bitcointalk just implemented such a system, albeit not using blockchain. It's the merit points system that was unveiled today. Find the announcement here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

The argument that open forums will create spam is clear. What I am saying is that perhaps it can be controlled. For example though Wikipedia has spam , it is by far the most important source of info in the planet. This forum for example has restrictions regarding spam. Reddit has quite significant restrictions. I am not trying to reduce reliance on Bitcoin. This has no relation to bitcointalk. This would be the equivalent of Facebook. A site where you would be reading stuff of people you follwo. And would be paid if people click on links that accompany your messages. To get someone to click perhaps you would require to create interetsing content.

It is a  good idea and I think that in future social networks will be replaced by such models only. People spent a lot of time on social networks and it makes sense to share the earnings with users based on time spent or contributions made.

What I would like to see is Facebook adding Bitcoin as a payment option in the Facebook Marketplace application. I believe Mark Zuckerberg already indicated that they are looking at Bitcoin as a possible payment option within Facebook. The Lightning Network might just make this possible, if it is successful. ^smile^

We just have to get the Lightning Network moving from the test phase to mainstream use as soon as possible.

Something tells me Zuckerberg is not going to pay anyone; anything. If he wanted to, he would have  done it ages ago; in fiat currency. If we want cryptos to be used in social networks we will need to build the network.

Yeah we do already have that crypto - social media
it is called Steem and if you ask me it is not such a great idea to add "payment" to these platforms.
Even they made this feature on their website still there are only few people who are making that much there, it's like a privilege just like what the forum is dealing with today.

Don't be the next facebook be the next thing facebook wants to buy.
Improvement always have the space to be well known and paid off.

If the payment can be in cryptos all the better.
As for facebook, Mark is starting to study about this case and if he started to get his life in line with crypto's, this is expected.

The idea is good, but encrypting with paid subscriptions might get the boycott from most users, perhaps in exchange for encryption.

So more or less like Steem but without the blockchain? That’s not at all cryptocurrency though since like your goal doesn’t make any sense whatsoever

That’s more or less like those decentralized boards without any mods and shit. It kinda exists in those p2p networks without a central ownership or moderation teams

More or less like Steem. Flaws of Steem as I see it. More like Twitter. Facebook design improves user involvement. Signups take 7 days. Really? You are a social network. Users are your life.  Blockchain I am conflicted about it. I think I will eventually have to create some form of cryptocurrency for this. If I am thinking of putting it up here. There are other social networks in crypto. Sapien is one. But I do not think anything will be a challenge to Facebook, since all of these grow arithmetically. We need MLM for faster growth.

Thanks for reminding me, yup the steem, I just visited their site and looks like they have a huge community I mean who doesn't want to pay just being active on that site.

There is no free lunch, facebook is milking your data, reddit sells ads based on content clicked on even with the settings to not log, twitter reads your DMs and sells data.

Nothing is free in social media.
Exactly, this is what I'm talking about but I'm just wondering a social media like steem how they earned the profit? as I can see those who registered out there don't need such details to join and the owner giving lot of money to their users.

He doesn’t want to create a new block chain though so unless he plans to I guess make an ERC 20 or NEO based token to reward them unlike Steem

Will need to use a ER-20 token. I do not think facebook has any intention of doing anything crypto.
