As I started in Crypto back in November. made some mistakes in the beginning.of buying into some coins that were quite high already.
more less I bought them at a peak. now they are hovering lower. more of my altcoins
eg Potcoin etc

I am trying to figure out what is the best option?

should I

1. sell out the coin now and buy in again at this lower rate.
2. hold of what I have and buy more into it if the price dips, (even though I may not be taking good profit)
3. just hold only and do nothing
4. your suggestions?

The coins is not a high valued coins but as I said I taking a loss since I bought them a long time ago end of November at a peak. so I am not making profit at this time.

more less just confused of what would be best option at this time? thanks for all your help

first of all being high or low are relative concepts. at all times you need to check the charts and the coin generally to see if its current price is considered high or low. then buy only if it satisfies 2 conditions: be low and have potential of upcoming rise in near future.

when you make the mistake of buying into the bubble (on top) and start experiencing the drop, you need to sell when it is early on in the drop. meaning when the whale dumping begins and you lose a small percentage of your investment. you should never hold on to the altcoins you have until they reach the bottom and you lose a large percentage of your investment.

when you get to that point (lost a lot and the price is at a much lower price) it becomes impossible to say what you should do next. at these low prices 3 things can happen:
1. price drops more: lower chance
2. price stays here for a very long time with small slow drop: higher chance. in fact this is the most common thing with pumped altcoins
3. price rises: much lower chance because it was pumped recently and it needs time before next pump.

By "quite high" you mean that the coin has already been increasing in price lately but you still bought it?

It's quite hard to know if the coin is standing high or low, because even if it was climbing hard lately, you still can't know how further it can go, and we have seen coins going x5 in a short term after doubling and more.
I think that you should never buy a coin that went up more then 50% at the week before, unless you are pretty sure that the coin is undervalued and the market cap of the coin is way lower then it should be.
I think you should be keeping holding the coin as the crypto market showed as that in the long term usually coins manage to recover values.

Would've been easier to analyze if all the coins in question were mentioned but since you tell us it is not doing too well as one of your first investments, my suggestion would be to hold and do nothing more until it has an bullish outbreak which is almost always evident during altcoin rise period.
It would be foolish to sell everything and buying in back again as it would make no sense at all and buying more would be a bigger setback to your portfolio as expectations on the said tokens are not up to the level.

Would be best if you will look at the coin more closer, check the pattern, you can still earn from the downfall of the coins price but it is very risky, well what would be your risk when the price is already falling right?  What I am trying to say here is, you can play with the fluctuation.  Like what you said, sell it then buy at a lower price, but  I will also say that the risk here is when the coin pumps again.  You will be left with losses.  Anyway, since I believe it is recently pump, it will take sometime to pump again thus, an ideal for scalping method and take advantage of the minor to major fluctuation of the price of the coin.

The best option you have would be hold your coins and do nothing. just wait for the cryptocurrency market to recover or if that coin gets pump by whales you are lucky. there is nothing good by selling your investment lower than the price you bought it unless the market is just starting to crash or drop. it would be better if you stated the name of that coin because if it is a coin that have huge volume it would be better to hold and buy more at a lower price.

If they are really shit coins then it may never go back to the price you bought.

But if they are good coins then they will go up one day.

So do research if they are good then keep. Else let cut lost and start over with new good coins.
