I am sure admin and moderators are already doing the best but since there are so many members, it would be better if we make their job easier. A lot of people have one problem against merit system- that people  may buy or sell it or use multiple accounts for merit farming. Let us solve this on own.

Here are some tips to find these abuses. All you have to is to observe this page stats correctly.( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats )

Check these two

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toptopics

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toprepliesat

Look from top and read the thread heading, you will get some idea. Quick glance shows that  these might be unjustified:

1) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2095908.msg28684426#msg28684426

2) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2821573.msg28898587#msg28898587

You can do further investigation like clicking the profile of the person sending the likes. Like in case of https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2821573.msg28898587#msg28898587. Sender is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=868650 . His merit summary  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=868650. Both users gave merits to each other. This is not a confirmation but a red flag for sure. You can report such case to moderators and let them decide.

Hope this helps. If you have something to add, post below.

Your post is helpful for getting familiar with merit system. But I wouldn't recommend to red flag unproven cases and I would also wait to judge any cases, until we got familiar with the merits with one exception:
Connected accounts giving merits each other should get negative trust at once, because they scam the forum.

That is already happening now. I think members will now stop doing this if they do not want to risk their credibility.
