It's the equivalent of an IPO - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/ipo.asp, basically when a stock goes to the market for the first time, they sell a certain amount of them at a fixed price.

That's basically what an ICO does aswell, but with coins, or tokens.

AN ICO is Initial Coin Offering in which someone offers investors some units sf cryptocurrency or crypto-token in exchange for btc or eth. It was first used by ripple and they created nearly 100 billion XRP tokens and the company sold these tokens for development of ripple. By investing in ICO one can easily fund the development of a crypto by releasing its token integrated in its project.

ICOs are unregulated and use cryptocurrency instead. This means that there is no real force preventing ICOs from just running away after a token sale, and all you have is trust.

ICOs usually skirt the law or are outright illegal in some cases. ICOs have the potential for pump and dumps.

Once the concept is designed and is ready for investors to view, this is then marketed on a rigourous basis using digital marketing platforms
