Hi,
Concerning the Merit system, afaik once we used all the sMerit we will be left with 0 (unless we get the 1/2 of the recieved Merit).
Basically then 0,02% of the community (200? sources / estimated 1M? [1744190 members - removing bots, nuked accounts, etc]) will have a constant sMerit monthly to evaluate? & credit 8763.76 average posts per day.
My suggestion is to enlarge the sources and create categories ~like default trust :
+ Source 1 : default sources designated initially by theymos et al. with variable sMerit points > 50/month?
+ Source 2 : VIP-donators-default trust members. sMerit for example will be credited 12-8-6 points per month (or per period maybe?) respectively.
+ Source 3 : copper (+other metals if created) members +/- members selected/trusted by source 1. sMerit 2-4 / month (1-2 per period?).
(i am sorry if this was posted somewhere else and I didn't noticed it, in this case alert me to trash this, thanks)
Edit : switched points for source 3. Fixed.

..enlarge the sources and create categories ...
Yeah, Theymos is expecting the source of merit points to number around 100 - 200 by the year end.

I like these ideas, ~edit~ except the copper membership thing that illinest mentioned below. You shouldn't pay to get merit or pay to become it's source~edit~
I think the Merit points (let's call it that??) should be replenishable. There should be a Merit generation vector. People that receive merit points are obviously going to get a boost, while active people that have spent their Merit points get a replenish rate.

People that have given away most of their Merits could be given a higher replenish rate vs those that hoard them, or people that are inactive for more than 3 months.

This, IMO would reduce the butthurt by a lot and make more sense.

And I also said this :

The whole trust system was implemented back then because the community was just getting too big to monitor for the limited number of staff. However, times have changed since then. Why not hire a bunch of NEW unbiased staff members and give them money for doing their job. Do hell with all the DT1/DT2/MERIT this MERIT that. Theymos can afford it now cuz he has made millions already. So why leave this task to some unpaid, unprofessional & rude people? Emphasis on some, not all.

Ideally, merit sources =/= Default trust members. If the issue is post quality, then marketplace trust shouldn't play a role.

I also don't think that Copper Members (or any other rank that you can pay for) should make you a merit source. After all, it's a merit system. Those who warrant being a source shouldn't have to pay for it. And those who would pay for the privelige shouldn't be a source.

I just notice that everyone in this forum is talking about merit system, I don't really care about that aside my rank is not going to rank up.
Additionally we can talk about something interesting like the other guy is suggesting and not this meriting function.

And I also notice that everyone is posting much more from now.

Aside from the pre-generated ones, sMerits should only be gained by getting merits for every high quality posts because if it is replenishable over time, it will just create an opportunity for account farmers to spread merits through their accounts without creating any quality posts.

Of course I'm talking about the users who are not "merit sources". Merit sources are reviewed by the higher ups so it's fine.

The Merit system is kind of revolutionary measure taken by theymos. Most of the users try to understand it, report errors and deal with it from now on.
If you are meaning precisely people posting much than habitual in order to increase their chances to get merit then yes it is expected (but they will get nothing if they post trash)

-snip-
Expected to be criticised in this point and hesitated before adding it. I just put it in order to increase as possible the sources with people that care about the forums. It isn't a must to have it to be a source but paying for it will give you a tiny reward (2 sMerit/month). And i think that i switched the numbers. Gonna fix it. Thanks Smiley

-snip-
I like your idea but we should take on consideration that some members have plenty of alts, some of it high ranked which can abuse the system by sending regenerated sMerit (if accepted ofc) between these accounts or their friends.

For source 1 and 2 there is no problem.
For source 3 (3b = members trusted by source 1) it should be no problem also).
For source 3 (3a = copper member) : it may be a problem and it could be abused if spammers are willing to pay ~$20 for every account to have 2 sMerit points every month which will take them several months to allow 1 account to rank up (unless of course they will pay for dozens even hundreds of accounts). This copper member story could be even limited to higher ranks only. Theymos could create a silver member for example having this feature and exclude copper member from sources.

For source 1 and 2 there is no problem.

People who became merit sources are reviewed by the higher ups and deemed to be "qualified" with their specific criteria and being a VIP/Donator doesn't necessarily mean you fit those Roll Eyes

For source 3 (3b = members trusted by source 1) it should be no problem also).

Could be another way to look for a source

For source 3 (3a = copper member) : it may be a problem and it could be abused if spammers are willing to pay ~$20 for every account to have 2 sMerit points every month which will take them several months to allow 1 account to rank up (unless of course they will pay for dozens even hundreds of accounts). This copper member story could be even limited to higher ranks only. Theymos could create a silver member for example having this feature and exclude copper member from sources.

While this merit system could really halt account rankings, It is not the main purpose of it. The idea is to stop people from shitposting and account farming which can possibly stop or decrease to be precise, if people can only gain sMerits by creating quality posts.
