Hi guys and gals!

Im new to this forum but have been involved with cryptocurrency for about 2 years and been a collector /enthusiast of shiny objects for a long time ( metal detecting addict).

Anyways I wanted to reach out here to get opinions about creating physical coins for various cryptocurrencies. I realize this is not a new idea by any means, however I feel there could still be a market.

I am curious as to what type of metal people think would have the most success. I am torn between making smaller quantities of silver coins or making larger amounts of brass/ sterling silver.  I am leaning towards silver however this obviously pushes up the price point for buyers quite a bit. They would be 1 ounce coins. (obviously another option is to offer both but for starters I'd like to stick with just one type of metal).

I also am wondering if people feel that the coin needs to serve a purpose. For example, the hollow coin offered by PhysiBit a while back was a place to hide Private Keys. Or other coins that just use a sticker to cover up a qr code.  I dont want to preload coins with any amount of currency, it seems it could only create a lot of problems down the road.

The communities / coins I am most active in  XMR, VTC, NEO, IOTA.  I have am currently working with a couple artists to come up with the design for the coins. I want to start with XMR and VTC as these are the two communities I am involved with most.

Other coins I think that could have success: RaiBlocks (wait until after rebranding though) and Doge.

I would love any feedback/ advice. Thank you for taking the time to read.  Smiley

Paul

There are always going to be coin artists welcome and it’s never too late!

I think most would like to see pure silver (as long as it’s reasonably priced). However gold coins have sold well if they’re reasonably priced/unique. I’d personally love to see a platinum coin one day!  If the coin is unique, has the ability to be loaded/DIY, perhaps inscribed mintage on coin etc..non-precious metal can be cool! But pure silver is most desirable.

A BTC coin is always going to be my favorite, but also really want to see an IOTA coin made. I’d also like to see an ADA, VIA and perhaps a garliccoin (as is sure to be mentioned). Not that I’m big on the project itself, but I think an argument could be made that the second/third best selling crypto physical coin is Potcoin. Not a lot of stuff has been made but what has been sells fast.

My two Satoshi’s

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it.

What do you think is a reasonable price for a 1 ounce silver coin?

I agree Platinum would be freakin awesome but the upfront cost on my end would be massive. It would have to be 1/10 ounce coin which then is really small.

Potcoin! haha. i completely forgot about that market!  I need to read more about Garlic Coin. I keep reading about it and haven't dug into it.

My vote would go to silver, I'd think the reasonable price depends on the total package provided and if there are extras like hologram/COA associated with each individual coin.

No pressure but I'd also like to see a platinum crypto coin someday as well!

All new artist and coinmakers are welcome.  I would suggest a fresh new idea or delve into an altcoin that hasnt been approached yet by the physical market.  Iota sure does have a big following and can have a lot of appeal.  If you grossly over price it or try to get one over on the community here you will be quickly shot down so take your time but i always encourage and love fresh new ideas.  Good luck in your venture if you decide to go forward with it.

A real beauty is the Casascius Silver coins with gold trim, OOH PAPI

Anything similar to that and count me in!  Maybe Blackcoin, or ZCash?

Welcome to the forum future coin maker

Any precious metal is good for me.

I would stick with Bitcoin...the first and only digital currency I believe in.

And yes, do a great artistic design like the NattyMind Eleuatheria coin.

Beautiful design and very unlike the rest as it just does not just have the coin symbol in the front.

Large, bold and different. A beauty to behold

Also a good book to read would be from our very own Bigtimesphagetti

I think you should use cheap amalgam materials. About loading your coins with any amount of currency would be very nice. Finally people would be able to buy physical items in offline stores with no transaction fees and no confirmation time. It would be great!

.999 silver just has an appeal and is affordable.  Brass Bronze Copper Gun metal brushed metal etc although can be beautiful and collectible for rarity may not share the same numismatic value change in the coming years as silver platinum and gold.

Mike Caldwell started with Brass tokens that were in fact car wash tokens. This kept the price down and is a good start point when learning about the processes of making coin designs.

Precious metal coins will always be popular but they come wit their own quirks, needs and issues and can this can be a very steep part of the learning curve as your progress. Costs, Dies, Security, Distribution etc.

Take your time, learn and listen and read. bigtimespaghetti made a book about coin making

Good luck Smiley

I know one great jeweler that can make anything! As I know, he is cooperating with ICO's for coin making. If anyone wants, I can give some contacts and you can order any coin you want Wink
