In my opinion, people gamble with winning as their main goal. Addiction is the hidden effect of this goal which can sometimes be mistaken as 'fun'.

I know a lot of people said that they are gambling for fun, and the reason why they say that is because gambling with mony is more exiting than just palying a normal game, having somthing to risk is more exciting and gives it more flavor, the feel when you are waiting for the resaults the rush that you get from gambling does not exist if you are just playing for nothing, besiades i am only talking about the people who spend like a 30 to 20$ not the ones who put like a 1000$ and excpect to have fun.

I gamble for fun but I need money too. Gambling for fun for me means that whenever I lose money from my habits, I try to prevent that loss from hurting my finances and my life. If I play with "fake money" I will not have fun. Nothing is free in this world including fun!

Gambling can only be fun if you keep the ante very low so that you play mostly for the fun part of it and if you happen to win some then more fun to it. But if you play with high antes it will stop being fun fast after you take in some huge losses and become a gambler addict. I play for fun sometimes with my money. I have a bore life nowadays, I am just at home and school with my son and waited for him for 3 hrs to finish his studies. Well, for me betting with real money on an activity that is made for entertainment because it forces you to play much more serious to do wverything you can and adds a little more flutter in your heart that would make winning much more enjoyable because you have lived through that adrenaline rush. Well it also gives you sadness when you lose so its a two way street

I think this is a great question.  I usually play for real money now... as when I'm working I usually work very hard, with long and odd hours.  I have a few hobbies that I enjoy that get me out and about with friends so those are a nice break from my hectic work. 

One of my hobbies is gambling and I do it to relax, have some fun and stop my brain from thinking about work.  Its almost like a reward to myself for working hard and is definitely a distraction.

I've tried to gamble for play money on freeslots in the past, but it was not much fun for me.  I found nothing to gain from it and it got boring after I had 20,000,000+ fake coins.  If I was going to play for free I would rather play in a poker free roll instead, where there was an opportunity to win something of value.   Or at least interact with people.

Also sometimes, I like to try something new with gambling so would go to a new casino after researching their reputation.  I may try a no deposit bonus, if the new casino had one... just to see how the sites games played, but many times they are hard to clear as they have high roll overs... there are a few exceptions though that I was able to clear easily.

I used to gamble for high stakes, but every now and then I challenge myself by making a tiny deposit into an online casino and see how far I can take it.   So far my best run at these self challenges has been from a tiny ~2mbtc deposit up to a respectable ~400mbtc withdrawal!  It took me a full 7 hours to do that though, but I really enjoyed myself.  Plus the extra income never hurts!  So its not always that I have to gamble on high stakes, but I like the challenge of trying to win.

I guess when I play sports its a similar feeling for me.    I could hit, kick or throw a ball with some friends for a while and not keep score... but its so much more fun when we play an actual game, and we keep score, and then someone can win the game right?

Just remember, bankroll management is important.  So try not to play for more than you can afford to lose and you should always have fun.  If you have a problem gambling, or if it stops being fun, consider that it may be time for you to take a break and try another pass time that you can enjoy more?

I like how you think because that's what I thought of for a long time. It's like risking something of value to something that you can get with no risk. Like playing usually or hanging out with friends. You can get fun with that. But as time goes by, probably people get bored, and they want something that is exciting, perhaps that's why they gamble even if they use real money or something like that.

I am gambling for fun and excitement the thrill that I am getting when playing while the money is at risk is simple irreplaceable,
I just can't really feel the fun and excitement when there is no risk in a game ,

if there is no money involved it's can't called as gambling because gambling required money and it's mandatory and if no money we can't started gambling and maybe the difference gambling for fun is basically they were using free money or only small amount of money to starting gambling and they maybe not only pursue money also if they lost then they will never thinking to recover their losses and leave the game

So where is the excitement if you gamble without using money? Do you really think that it can give you happines? It maybe hard to explain the reason why it needs money to gamble for fun but that is the way it is. And maybe people are much complicated and adventurous as you think it is. From what I know there is a difference of fun and excitement of winning real money from play money. Of course you are risking your own money just a chance to win more with it, the fun and excitement will be less when you are just playing with free money which we all know don't have any value at all to us. And also if I gamble,  I gamble for fun as if I gamble for money I am expecting at the end that I will win something which is really depressing if I don't produce the result that I want.

I play games using money because I was not enjoy playing anything with any bets. I was in lazy when I play without any bet, maybe if I win trophy or medal that's the game I focused to win. But if I play for nothing, like playing basketball without bets, medal or anything I was not enjoy it.

Well, money and appreciation attracts but honestly there are more important awards in this world to grab than playing a game which no one knows about.

If you are really that determined to wins the race, how about participating in a bigger race with a good number of speculators. I am suggesting you to change the direction of your efforts and utilize your energy in some constructive and more rewarding field.

I don't know man but for me money or any capital adds to the excitement in gambling.
Like spin the bottle, it won't be worth it to play, or fun if there is no consequences.
In gambling, you will be challenge to do good in playing because you would not want to lose something of your possession.
