I think this may be the answer I'm looking for. Mount the PCIe rail higher, add a rear GPU support rail, and that would pretty much be my ideal caseless setup for 4 GPUs. What do you think?

Looks kind of interesting actually... a little concerned that the pics seem to be from 2001 Tongue Not really a big believer in open-air cases, though. With some forethought it's not too difficult to achieve the same or better results with an enclosed case as far as GPU temps go. If I did go open-air, though, I would probably pay more for something like this:

Not only would I feel it secured my components better, aethestics should never be overlooked.  Tongue

Have you considered this:

http://www.myopenpc.com/products/doma-pro-pci/

this is the version that doesn't include the back panel:

Also @ less than $50 the price can;t be beat. They also have a stackable version. I've seen some pictures of similar setups in the forums.

some pitcures ripped from the forum. i was thinking of using the acrylic test bench without the back panel and maybe connecting the cards to the mobo with risers as shown below. might not be the prettiest setup but considerably bettter than a pizza box.
...aesthetics  Huh
