Update (May 11, 2022): See the next post for my Fork claiming service. Note that most of the Forkcoins mentioned here are no longer worth anything, and prices have dropped significantly. There are however still 5 Forkcoins worth claiming.

LoyceV's Bitcoin Fork claiming guide (and service)

I wasn't sure what board to post this on, so I decided to make it informative and a service at the same time. I will only list methods, wallets and exchanges that I have used by myself.

Why
Bitcoin Cash has opened the floodgates to countless more Bitcoin forks. It's almost impossible to keep track, several websites show all possible forks, Coinmarketcap shows many forked coins already, but most forks don't have a working wallet yet.
As much as I dislike forks, once they do have a working wallet, I'll happily exchange them for real Bitcoins!

Start
You need to know which one of your addresses held Bitcoin during each fork. If you use many (change) addresses, it can be quite a lot of work to find them all. I suggest to list them all in a spreadsheet, and check each address for each fork.

Precautions
My favourite precaution is being very careful. Assume any wallet can steal your money, and try all you can to prevent that from happening.
Be very careful not to send Forkcoins to the wrong chain!
I don't trust many wallets, so I use a VM for anything I install on my PC. An alternative would be using another computer.
Some of the new Forkcoins have a very wide spread in trading price (see the Markets-tab on CMC), and not all of the exchanges accept deposits (or withdrawals) for each Forkcoin. Be very careful which exchange you trust.

Bitcoin Forks and Wallets (Note: values in this table are outdated, check Coinmarketcap.com for the current value)

** I don't trust HitBTC after reading many accusations against them, but it worked for me.
*** Use Bither to import the private key, then send the coins to the Bitpie wallet (this takes quite high transaction fees). (It's unclear to me why these features can't be combined in the one wallet). Also available on iOS: Bither (I didn't get this to work) and Bitpie.
**** Only listed because Bitpie wallet supports them, I have no further information.

Help me update this list
Please help me to keep this thread (and the table above) up-to-date: If a legit wallet and exchange are available for an unlisted fork, please post it and I'll add it to the list.
I'll only list Forkcoins with at least a working wallet.

How to claim forks
1. Setup a new secure Bitcoin wallet (create backups!), and move all your Bitcoins from your old wallet to your new wallet. To avoid confusion later, label your old wallet (I suggest "compromised for forks") and make sure nobody is going to send any Bitcoin to any of the addresses anymore. Don't delete your old wallet.
2. Wait until your Bitcoins are confirmed on their new addresses.
3. Export the private keys to the addresses that hold Forkcoins.
4. Start with the most valuable fork, and work your way downwards from there. That means Bitcoin Cash comes first, followed by Bitcoin Gold.
5. Install a Forkcoin wallet. Make sure this wallet can't compromise the rest of your system.
6. Import one private key at a time (this reduces the risk if you installed a rogue wallet), and send it to the exchange of your choice.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for all other forks.

Special cases
See this post if your coins are stuck in multisig.
See this post if your coins were sent to a pubkey instead of an address (this is rare, but was common back in the early days of Bitcoin)

Investment advice
I don't give investment advice Tongue
Be very careful when you're investing in forks!
Altcoins, ICOs and forks are created for only one goal: earn money for the creators! The basic concept is very simple: create a fork, premine 100,000 coins for yourself, hype it, and earn millions of dollars profit! Then, do it again with another name. That's the only reason we have so many forks now, and it's the reason I recommend to stay away from forks. You can speculate, but remember it's not Bitcoin.
This thread is only meant to aid in selling, not buying.

No spam
All my threads are now self-moderated to stop signature spam. I will remove all irrelevant posts. If you quote the entire OP, your entry will be deleted.
Once in a while I'll summarize posts and clean up this thread.

Disclaimer
Use this information at your own risk. At all times, think before each action, especially when you're dealing with private keys. When in doubt, don't do it!

My Service
Most Forkcoins can't be deposited to any trustworthy exchange yet. That means I can't really offer the service I want to offer yet, so I'll just keep this here until it becomes available. Gate.io takes Forkcoin-deposits, but it has many scam accusations and I don't trust it.
I can already offer my service for Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and BitCore.

General note: never give your private key or word seed phrase to anybody! If you're not the sole owner of your private keys, you're not the owner at all!
If you want me to claim your forked coins for you, you're going to have to give me your private key(s). Now, read the sentence above this again. Are you confused yet? That was intentional to make you realize what you're about to do!

If you decide to use my services, notify me first. If it comes to the point where you're going to send me private keys, do not just PM them!
Before sending any private keys, move your Bitcoins to a new secure wallet! Also move the Forkcoins to a new address on as many forked chains as you can do on your own. This reduces the risk by securing the majority of your funds by yourself.

My fee is negotiable: make me an offer! Each address requires quite some work per fork, it won't be worth my time and the Bitcoin fees doing this for very small amounts.

Why trust me
Check LoyceV's Legendary Campaign/Services Portfolio to see what campaigns I have managed in the past.
Check Payments to see me share about $1220 after the June 2017 Byteball airdrop. Subsequent comments testify to this.
See my Trust summary (click "Untrusted feedback").
Check my staked address to see my account is not hacked.
Full disclosure: for LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Experiment: STARTED I still have altcoins currently worth about $1600 entrusted to me.
If this isn't enough: you don't have to use my services, and you're still welcome to post comments!

Looks like a pretty cool service, and thank you very much for all of the valuable info. Can I just send you a dump of all my used BTC addresses, can you scan for forked tokens, tell me which addresses have said tokens, and I send over the priv keys? I'd happily give you 5-10% of the value for your service.

I think I have many addresses that have claimable fork coins, but it does seem like a lot of work and I am terrible at tracking down change addresses. I use Core, which seems to generate many many change addresses and so I'm wondering if you would be willing to help me dig through my wallets to discover what stash is lying in wait.

I am positive I have a few addresses that were around for the BCH fork, which also seems to be the most profitable fork from what I can tell. Is there any easy way to keep track of Core's Change addresses or to easily take a snapshot of a particular date in time for your wallets for quick checking?

While I'm interested in the service, I do not want to waste either of our time and would like to do what I can to figure out where I'm at without completely doing everything for myself, since it sounds dreadful.

Thank you OP for this helpful and informative thread. I have already got my Bitcoin Cash by following a tutorial I found here in this forum. It was successful, I use a windows app wallet for exporting my bitcoin wallet address and its private keys. I just forget the name of the app but I will try to edit this post as I open my laptop.

That's only a list of upcoming/past bitcoin hard forks.

Thanks LoyceV for this great guide on how are we going to claim those free coins out there.

Also good luck to your service.

(we've discussed this in PM)

General answer: Depending on how many different addresses you have, this can be quite a lot of work. Doing this manually means having to look up the balance for each address at the moment of each fork. For addresses with many transactions it's even more work to find back historic balances on a block explorer.
I don't mind looking into the occasional Bitcoin address, but if it's a long list of addresses with low balance, you'll have to do this on your own.

We are already having similar list here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2591813.0
That list hasn't been updated in a month. I checked some of the websites, and they do offer wallets, but I haven't tested them yet.

As far as I know, there is no easy way to take such a snapshot in Bitcoin Core. It can export all addresses you ever used: type listaddressgroupings in Console for the list.

An easy way to get an estimate is if you can remember your approximate balance on August 1, 2017 (the fork date for Bitcoin Cash) and other major fork dates that happened after this. Each Bitcoin you had is worth around $1500 in Bitcoin Cash, plus more in other forks. This should quickly tell you whether or not it's worth the effort.

Their main chain isn't launched yet.

Wow.

That single command is extremely helpful, I was having a tough time keeping track of all the extra addresses that core seems to create with every single transaction. I probably should take the time to read through the rest of the core commands, because up until recently I didn't even know how to acquire the private key for my address through core. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and helping me figure out how worthwhile it is to dig through my addresses and try to claim forks. It seems like I have a few addresses that had .01 here .02 there, but an extra few bucks is an extra few bucks. I'm going to see if I have old wallet files laying around, might get lucky.

I'll be bothering you again soon if I stumble upon anything I need your help with, or if I can use your service to our mutual benefit, for now I continue the search because .01 and .02 probably isn't worth your time.

If it includes Bitcoin Cash, you're talking about hundreds of dollars per address, so it'll be worth your time for sure Smiley

Most Forkcoins have dropped just like the rest of crypto recently, but Bitcoin Diamond went up 250% today! I still don't know a trusted exchange though, and the price varies from $7.44 at Gate to $148.73 at Kucoin. That means there's no arbitrage trading possible, the range is just rediculous.

I wonder how you've forgotten the wallet giant "exodus wallet"
I don't intend to give a complete list of all possible wallets. I've never used Exodus by myself, so I don't list it.
If it works for you, by all means, keep using it.

@hugeblack, love Exodus, it's my favorite desktop wallet but I would not recommend to exchange larger amounts with their exchange feature because their exchange rates are pretty bad, I think they are taking a cut there.

I don't know how so many people missed BitcoinX (BCX). You should definitely add it to the list: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoinx/. The ratio is 10 000:1, which makes the price an effective $135 per Bitcoin owned right now. The people who managed to *redeem* and sell this early on managed to score $350-400 per Bitcoin. It was also rather trivial to do if you have a place to sync their Core fork.

Diamond, Super and BitcoinX can be deposited on Gate.io the last time I checked (it might have changed recently though), so you might want to add a link to that.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough VM-space to sync their blockchain, so I can't test it.

I didn't test Gate.io after reading many scam accusations. Have you been able to successfully use it?

As a temporary, one time work around: You could collect keys that need to be used. Import all of them. Sync a pruned BitcoinX node. Obviously, this is very inefficient but in certain cases it will work out (e.g. if you only want to dump your own BitcoinX).

For those three forks, it worked out without issues. I have not used them for anything else however.

I still haven't tried gate.io (because of the many scam-reports). I'd like to use yobit or HitBTC, but I can't deposit:

That explains why their trading volume is so low.

Thank you for making this thread! Smiley

Have you considered adding CLAMS to the list? While not really a fork of bitcoin, every bitcoin address above a certain (very small) balance in May 2014 received a fixed amount of CLAMS in an airdrop (like BTX, but there wasn't some form to claim it, the airdrop was entirely on-chain and all the outputs exist already). The amount is worthwhile and a few of my friends were surprised to find they had hundreds of dollars hiding in their old wallets when I told them about it, so it may be a useful addition to this list even though it's ancient.
