During last few weeks, I bought couple of NVIDIA's GTX1080 cards however I should have done better home work on filtering the shady sellers. Mostly looked up the seller's rating for 95% or above but even then, scammers persist above 95%.

I am ssure there are hundreds who scam but in my instance, here is how  a particular seller will try to scam: mohi1690 sold 699$ cards with seized fan. His rating is 97% but history of his negative review shows at least 4-5 times, he has sent to other users various model of GTX cards with broken, bent fans. WHen I warned him, he has told me we will game the shipping insurance to refund. THe guy like this also send from POBox not revealing his address however from the box his name was: Mohiuddin Mahmood from Canal Wichester OH which is a suburb of Columbia city. Although you are not likely to run into scam artists like this, I Just wanted a word of warning that seller with good rating do scam.

To prevent yourself from this sort of fraud, even though seller has very few negative reputation, I'd recommend to careful review, some of the negative reviews are rather minor or benign (i.e. longer shipment, packaged not correct etc,.) but this guys history like selling multiple GPUs with physical damage was a habit which I fail to notice.

Ebay's response was pretty lame and retarded that they gave me a warning for contacting power seller for threatening to notify police law enforcement for doing scam effectively defending the scammer.

Another instance, another seller like johnknific has sent defective GPU as when turned off there were speckess running around the video screen and when I try to do few minutes of mining, minings software crashed with err message, clearly defective.

What the seller and ebay both told was most hypocrit thing I have ever said: the NVidia's GPU are not for mining so it can not be refunded!!!! Well at least I got limited to 2 bad instance like this most of the sellers are good just be on the watch out because when scammers hit you with cost of GPU, it will hit hard and EBAY will not help you !!!

It is really clear Ebay's reps are poorly trained in this respect for resolving dispute and actually sided with scammer on both instance.

Buying from a 95% seller. Is asking for trouble.

Telling them you mined with them is asking for more trouble.

Threatning the seller with legal action in an email or a message on eBay is asking for more trouble.

I want to return my card It does not show on my mobo.

I want to return my card the fan is seized.

Are examples of what you say.

Some miners are crazy and max cards out burning them out fast.  So you asked for trouble.

If they are Evga send me a pm. I may be able to help you.

If you are USA based.

Ebay's badass hypocritic response, you judge:

Thank you for contacting eBay regarding your appeal on case number 5159252246. I understand that you would like to be refunded now as the item you received is defective. I know how this can be a cause of concern for you. My name is Maria and I am a specialist for eBay's Resolution Center. I am happy to look into this further and explain the situation as it stands now.

We have reviewed the details of your appeal. This includes all of the details available within the return request and the listing. The original decision to close this request in the seller's favor was correct. The correct item was sent to you. The item was not intended to be used for mining purposes as it is supposed to be used for gaming. As the item was not tested properly, it cannot be verified that the item is defective. Since your request does not qualify for our eBay Money Back Guarantee, the appeal is denied.

I am sorry to see that this transaction has led to so many complications. Please know that it is never our intention to add any unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. Our goal is to always ensure that all members are treated equally and fairly within the Terms and Conditions of the eBay Marketplace.

If you would like to learn more about our eBay Money Back Guarantee policy, please feel free to click on the following link:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/buyer-protection.html

Thank you for choosing eBay!

Sincerely,

Maria L. M.

First of all, what I do with my purchase is my own decision. If i burn it after abusing for several months that is my own thing. What happened was it malfunction right out of box, that is the thing, initial sanity test which has failed. Initial test was not about mining it simply booted to desktop with speckless all around. I mine at lowest power setting to maximize efficiency and prolong life but that is not relevant to this.

The GPU can not be for mining is bullshit. You can stress the GPU in anyway you want by playing hard game 24hrs, AI computing and GPU based application to do stress testing. GPU mining software is simply a sofware that does HASH calculation repeatedly, so it is BS after BS when Ebay says this.  But I aint even going with that with those Ebay minions, as it is too technical and higher stuff for 'em.

You must of gotten really bad luck and got in touch with the only eBay dispute agent which actually favours the seller.

I am really surprised this happened to you.

In the past, I sold something on eBay, the buyer mined with it for like 1 month, broke it, and sent it back demanding a refund.

Not only did I get bad feedback, not only did I have to issue them a full refund, I also had to pay for the shipping, BOTH WAYS!

I am thinking about not using ebay, unquestionably they have most selection but on the other hand they are too many bad actors.
OF the 38 purchases I made in last few weeks with some GPU and some other stuff 2 has gone bad
This equals about 5% purchase has gone bad.
Out of 2 disputes, both of them were women and handled the dispute wrongly which is straight 100% failure from ebay.

Compared to ebay I made about minor purchases on Amazon (3 purchases recently) and 100% has gone good.
Now it is true that I havent dealt with Amazon no guarantee this will not happen iwth Amazon but so far it did not happen as bad as Ebay's 100% fail on dispute.

What does the seller's gender have to do with your experience? Did you know the gender of the sellers in all of your successful purchases?

I had better experience selling on this forum or via reddit /r/MinerSwap. Paypal or escrow fees are also lower selling through ebay. Ebay takes 10% + 4% paypal and 2.5% currency conversion to withdraw to non USD bank, it's ridiculous.

AFAIK, Ebay is out. They halted my account in retialiation for 7 days but I halted my purchases anyway so it wont matter even if they suspend. Thanks for infor regarding reddit and this selling info on this forum too, that;d be new to me.

had no choice but submitted evga to see if they will replace.

The other one does not look like an OEM manufacturer (like EVGA, GIGABYTE or MSI) it is made by NVIDIA. Do they manufacture end product?

The title of product says:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB GDDR5X PCI Express Graphics Card

GOing to nvidia RMA page, it asks for a authorized re-seller which I have no idea what to select.

If EVGA is anything like MSI or Gigabyte or ASUS. The warranty stays with the GPU and not the owner.

So basically you go to the website, put in the serial # and that's should be all. The warranty will be based on the production date instead of the purchase date so warranty might be 6 months shorter but it should still work.

Unless EVGA is gay like Sapphire and only the original owner WITH receipt can claim warranty work.

EVGA is good

it was quite hassle free after getting used to ebay's terrible dispute policy.

after quite some time evga has sent me a 1080 with much different design with two open air fan instead of blow-air fan. Can not complain.
Now I have remaining faulty 1080 founders edition that was showing speckless all over again on display when connected and also mining is not working with this.

Few discovery I made was that if I plug in the card and even if I connect through Remote desktop connection it still showing some floating speckless around. I thought I put the motherboard's onboard display as a primary.

I am going to try finding the subvendor ID in hope of locating the OEM code instead of primary vendor ID whcih is 10DE for nvidia.
Scratching my head on how I go with the replacement RMA for this.
