I recently started mining with an old PC running Linux running bfgminer and 6 of the Block Erupter ASIC USB devices.

While I'm still learning the nitty-and-gritty of mining I found a web site that compares mining for various coins and then compares this to mining BTC.

I've been told that some kinds of coins, specifically Litecoin cannot be mined with ASIC devices. I'm ASSuming this is due to the type of hash used. (SHA-256 vs. Scrypt)

After much Googling I've not been able to find a list of what coins can be mined with these little USB ASIC devices.

Thanks in advance...

Mongo, the newly minted Miner!

Yes, you are correct: ASICs are optimized for double SHA-256 on a small nonce.

If the alt-coin does something weird like single or triple SHA-256, some ASICs may not work. Fortunately for people interested in alt-coin mining, the Alt coin authors usually change as little as possible when creating a new coin.

Unfortunately, few Alt coins actually bring anything new or interesting to the table. I like the ideas behind namecoin myself.

Terracoin
Devcoin
Freicoin
Ixcoin

Also i0coin, Zetacoin and Bytecoin use SHA-256.

Yes, Feathercoin is a Scrypt coin, and not mineable by ASICs. I don't think Devcoin is mineable either, it was a project that was completely mined and then given out for deving things.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...the ASIC will still be MINING BTC...but your account will be credited the same amount of FTC/LTC/whatever scrypt coin you want.  That's the benefit of the Eobot software, and it's simple to use, no setup, just download and run.

You can merge mine Devcoin along with Bitcoin, Namecoin, Ixcoin, I0coin and Groupcoin at Bitparking. 90% of the Devcoins you generate go automaticaly to the Devcoin Foundation for developers and other projects on Devtome. Devcoin are not worth much, but you can easily collect them to become a coin millionaire because you get a lot when you merge mine them  Wink

Nope, litecoin is a scrypt coin, you cant mine them with current ASICs.

Eobot is a noob friendly miner...no config/setup/mining pool to join.  Can mine with CPU/GPU/USB Block Eruptors, and shows real-time updates every 1/10 of a second of how much you have earned in either BTC/LTC/DOGE, your choice.

No idea why the link was removed.
