What is the deal with donation addresses on forum posts?

I have been participating in forums since FidoNet and I do not recall seeing many, if any, addresses for donations at the bottom of discussions.

Why? Because it's simple, fun, and easy! This is in great contrast to other payment methods. Besides, you never know when someone might want to send you a random donation. It's not like we're asking you to donate.

Well, I'll agree with one thing. It is the fastest easiest way to pay someone not standing in front of you.

I've created a site for people who want to get donations, www.online-tipjar.com

Crosspass -- a simple way to send passwords, encryption keys, bitcoin addresses, etc.

I put up an address in my signature when I first joined as a joke, I felt it was shitty that people were doing it.

Then I changed, I like the idea of rewarding peoples who had posts that I enjoyed, would not random free money encourage them to post more?

Well I can tell you I was wrong.  Just have a donation address in your signature for the hell of it, it aesthetically looks nice reading post and having a random bar of characters before the next post.

Also, no one donates.  Ever.    But just have it there.

Very funny whoever you are!  No donations ever, then when you say it and stop asking, bam, donations!

Learn from my mistakes newbies
1 - Always beg.
2 - Stop begging.
3 - Huh
4 - PROFIT!

I have never seen a question mark/profit chart so accurate.

In my defense, you deserved a donation anyway. Congrats on getting over 1000 posts!

Thanks, it is appreciated!

Note: This happening in this thread in particular has spawned a whole new group of beggars registering their bitcoin.org forum accounts as I type lol

I've had donations once in a while, but i find having an addy in my sig more useful for not having to reach for my wallet and copy/paste an address whenever i'm in a situation i want someone to know where to send money in the forum.

(I dont always get new reply notifications, pls send a pm when you think it has happened)

Wanna gimme some BTC/BCH for any or no reason? 1FmvtS66LFh6ycrXDwKRQTexGJw4UWiqDX Smiley

People are greedy, and want even just a few Bitcoins, it's very unprofessional to have it in your signature if you own a business.

Now, this I can agree with. The only real exception, of course, is businesses where the whole business model is based on receiving donations.

Of course, but if you own a successful Bitcoin business and your asking for donations - it seems like your scavenging for Bitcoins. The owners are like little rats, addicted to cheese.
