Why is it so difficult to buy coin from Mt Gox. Why impose such small limits on purchases there as well? Can you guys list any alternative payment sites?

Campbx, coinbase, btc-e, are better exchanges. Depends on which part of the world you are.

There is a number of different ways. Like the ones mentioned above. However, you could always purchase coins here at the forums with some people offering to sell over at the currency exchange sub-forum.
The answer to your question: They get the most publicity. They are always featuring in the news for good and bad reasons. However, people read this and see they are the #1 largest used exchange. Therefore, people tend to trust the biggest leading companies. Then when they reach a certain amount of members or bitcoin deposited/withdrawn they will be featured in the news again. Which starts the cycle all over again. However, bitstamp and coinbase are slowly catching up and getting more publicity.

MtGox is the biggest (well I'm not sure if it still is) exchange, so it is mentioned in all the news articles and it's prices are referenced most often. But it has been having problems and it could be dethroned soon. Bitstamp is quickly catching up to it in volume, and LocalBitcoins no longer uses it as the default price reference because its prices are completely out of line with the rest of the exchanges. In the U.S., the best places to get bitcoins now are CoinBase, if you don't mind the link to your bank account and the new account delay, or LocalBitcoins, which gives you a very large variety of payment options (including face-to-face with cash).

You can always set up a meeting and meet your trader on some dark street. Recognizable pattern: wear yellow trousers ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) It was like that past times.. Great times man.

I use CoinBase and it's worked well for me - you just have to wait 5 days for your transactions for the first month.

Thanks guys, I tried out btcquick.com it's pretty easy and I can use my credit card through google wallet. The thing is I was in a bit of a hurry to get the coin but I'm overseas on the other side of the world in one of the worst places to get bitcoin. Turkey. I'm still waiting for the pending transaction on google wallet -_- I NEED to play satoshidice. The fate of the world depends on it, quite literally. ![Cry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cry.gif)

I have heard bad stories about btcquick (like delays, or maybe problems with the transfers....). So, you should try to contact their support. It might take a while before you see your coins ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) A wire transfer is always safer, even if it takes a few business days to proceed. And bitstamp is a safe exchange.
