What happened:
Received a PM asking me to signup for Novacoin.

Scammers Profile Link:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=118932

Reference Link:
N/A via PM

Amount Scammed:
$0, I'm posting this as a warning to others.

Payment Method:
N/A

Proof of Payment:
N/A

PM/Chat Logs:

Hi,
My Novacoin giveaway has began! I am a large holder in NVC and want to boost it's popularity. To do this I am offering the equivalent of 15$ in NVC for every person that gets the NovacoinQT wallet and sends me the newly made address.

I will be doing this up to the one hundredth address I receive and depending on the results I get on the NVC market I will either continue or discontinue these giveaways. Please do not attempt to send me multiple addresses, I have my ways of finding out. After downloading the wallet send me a pm on here with your NVC address. Hope you realise the investment opportunity that is Novacoin!

You can get the wallet from Novacoin.org

Thanks

note link edited, remove "REMOVETHIS" for the original address as he posted.

What all information do you want?

I only want the newly generated NVC address.

Seems legit, so I'll cautiously proceed.  Oops!  Runaway exception!  Looks like the client needs more work

Nvm, it works in a different OS:

4VuHcftm45NZKCvJijDetYrhcTSAx7P8RM

From here on out, he did not respond to PMs anymore.

Additional Notes:
I had just posted in the Newbies section so I'm assuming he thought he could pull a fast on me.  Too bad for him I check whether if links go to what they say they do or not.  I also directly typed the link into my address bar.  On a secure machine (virtual OS) I checked the site out and it looks identical to the actual novacoin site.  But the download links links you to a different zip file and not the sourceforge of the actual novacoin program.

I just decided to play along.  I thought at first he might be targeting those of us with higher post counts so that if people posted asking about it, we would say that we got paid out, but then I saw the link and realized what was going on.

Just a note for everyone: even those with high post counts can be scammers!!!

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Virustotal say it is Win32/Injector.Autoit.QS

So if anyone installed/run that his computer is compromised...

Restart might help but only in case it didn't add autorun... (read not very good virus) and don't count on it... assume it is not done by idiot and protect your self...
