Are there any coins you can mine with a normal computer

I entered into the wonderful world of crypto because I got interested in ICO:s, but I would like to try mining just to get a feel for it.
Is there anything I can mine with a normal computer. Not focused in making profit, but i would be fun to get a few coins that at least were worth something.

I want everyone to start using cryptocurrencies because that is future, as soon we accept it, we'll be able to help poor people destroyed by banks and evil of money, also I believe this way we can fight bad politics and corrupted political systems.
I recommend Litecoin, and start getting it for free depending on power of your PC/phone/tablet, best to work 24/7 on all devices for best results.

Yes there is. Try searching out there about using your CPU to mine some coins just to feel the essence of mining. I just can't give you the exact name of the coin but I'm sure you can find it here on the forum.

We have a mining section here in the forum where you can get an idea about mining. As for the coins that are mineable, you can refer to the list at coinmarketcap.com. You can check if a coin is mineable through the "Circulating Supply" as there's an "*" on the upper right corner of the value which means that it is not mineable. CPU mining on a desktop computer is okay, just don't try it on your laptop because it will shorten the lifespan of you laptop computer. I tried mining ETN few weeks ago on my laptop but it ended up shutting itself down probably after a couple of hours I went to sleep. I never tried it again

recently i was taking a look at the coins that you could "mine" with your disk - using/plotting your free disk space. So if you have a big disk storage to share you could mine coins as : Burst, Storj, Sia, Chia, etc. Find some online calculators of ROI to decide if it is worth doing.
