Brute forcing 50 bits of entropy would cost $1000 of AWS CPU time and a Bitcoin private key has 256 bits of entropy, so that would be roughly a 60-digit number times $1000 -- completely impossible and not even close to being profitable.

A very interesting discussion about this was done here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=139735.0 - Look at the explanation provided by DannyHamilton.

So you would just be wasting processing power and money that could have been used for mining and your returns on that might have been much better in the long run, if you stuck to Alt coin mining. ^smile^

I agree with you on everything you said.. this project has nothing to do with efficiency, only fun and a bit of humor.
if it was making sense to brute force bitcoin keys, why would anyone even want to use bitcoin.
the name of the project is galactic lottery because you need galactic luck to win. i know its dumb but hey, someone had to build it right?

i read the white paper and it seems you target only the first 25.000 blocks(?) to track satoshi's private keys. are the odds of finding the private keys slightly "increased" with your system?  Wink Grin

We all know that it is almost impossible to accomplish, but it is lottery, there is always chance Wink

Abstract: The website “The Galactic Lottery and Satoshi’s Lost Keys” offers users (regardless of religion, race, sex, or technological background) a chance to try their luck in uncovering Satoshi’s lost keys. The website is completely free, and connectable via any personal computer or smartphone. If the user’s computer successfully guesses Satoshi’s private key, that user becomes Satoshi himself !!!The user gains the opportunity to copy the private key that he uncovered, to restore it in any ordinary Bitcoin wallet, and to unlock the lost Bitcoins that are stored in that private key.
