Besides the concerns raised on the forums, there's a lot of things that need to happen with bitcoin before anything like MasterCoin can ever realise its potential.

The fact that "the Mastercoin project has over $585,000 in the bank" doesn't really mean anything in terms of the value of a MasterCoin. It's quite possible that a MasterCoin will be worth nothing in 180 days, so to value it at 2BTC today says more about your "ability to apply valuations" than mine.

To answer your question, no I had no "trouble passing math class", but there was no math required here anyway. The value of a MasterCoin is clearly as subjective as the value of a Magic-Bean.

Mastercoin now has upwards of $660K in the bank.  It is not 'subjective' - as you say, but rather it is math.  There is an integer number of Mastercoins and the value of them is $660K/[that number].  


That tomorrow something might happen to make them lose value - also applies to the dollar, yen, euro, et cetera.  It is not subjective but rather the value is set by open and efficient trading markets of which Mastercoin was until about an hour ago - now it is closed.  Closed means you are locked out.

I claim Master will be worth more than BTC in 180d.  But I am willing to sell one Master for 2BTC today.  Maybe it is my bet that Master will be 1.5X BTC in 180 days.  Therefore, it makes perfect sense for me to sell one for 2 BTC today.
