Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

It is probably easiest to mine coins which use the Cryptonight algorithm, as others have suggested, Monero (XMR) or Bytecoin (BCN) are both good options which have grown in value considerable over the past year. If you choose to mine Monero, you can do what is called dual-mining (Mining two coins at the same time)

As for me, best coin to mine in 2018 are ETH and KRB. First one is relatively predictable and you can plan your mining business in advance. Karbo has very good perspectives in terms of price. So if you mine and hold you may have nice Xs later this year. It's still easy to mine with ordinary hardware.

I would love to hear an elegant formula for determining the best coins to mine. Maybe we should build a simple calculator app? I'll design it and crank out a creative website for it, if someone wants to build out the calculator! -- chris // www.wondertwinslab.comOr you could just read and make your own judgments.
