How do you feel about zoos?

Unlike those who believe that zoos teach their visitors to respect animals, I think that what they teach is to perpetuate the idea that animals can be locked up for our own benefit; offering only a little information about their diet, the different existing species and their natural environment. But ... I am in favor of those zoos oriented to the development of conservation and reintroduction programs for the native species of their zone. Zoos that can shelter, care for and recover wild animals injured or coming from a confiscation or a situation of abuse, in addition to those programs that can protect almost extinct species and help them to stop being it.

Zoos should not be for the benefit of human entertainment, but for the protection of the species that accompany us on the planet.

When I was last time in Zoo some time ago (before that I was in Zoo when I was a little boy), I felt the great pity for the beasts and animals. If I could, I would cancel this terrible attraction around the world.
What do you thing about it?

If I do not have a zoo, maybe my whole life will not look at the real lion

When done correctly, I think zoos are great.

They help people fall in love with animals and make a personal connection with many animals that are going extinct. If we want to save the animals from going extinct, or get more people involved in protecting what is left of their natural habitats, then we need to start by getting people to care about these animals. And zoos are a great way for people to see and learn about these animals. This is what the crocodile hunter's motto was, and I think it is great.

Depends on the Zoo. A lot I have seen are poorly kept for and very small which is cruel. Others like the Los Angeles Zoo are amazing and are of great educational value.

I personally enjoyed my trip to the zoo back then. For me I think there is nothing wrong with that as the animals are well taken care of and given quite a large area to live about. The zoo I went to in tried as much as possible to mimic the exact environment the animals wild environment.
I also personally think that having a zoo makes us appreciate and even learn more from the animals in there, so I think there is nothing wrong with that.

Zoos are great specially when it comes to educating the kids about taking care of the animals. For adults, they are good place to enjoy with your special one.

I feel for these animals' safety from poachers who are interested on their body parts or them as a whole.
But they should not be living in a cage.
They must be living in their natural habitat and roam free.
It'll be better to die and enjoy your life to the fullest than die living in a small artificial habitat.

I feel strongly that animals should be free to roam in their own habitat.  I also feel that we need to protect the last breed able pair before they become extinct.  I lived within 15 miles of a major zoo and we always had season passes.  I found that the animals in this zoo were very well cared for and most likely would not be alive if left in their home land.

It's a really tough one, because I don't like to see the animals have to live in captivity, but, at the same time, zoos have always been my favorite attractions to go to.  I love to see the animals up close, you can learn so much.

It's brutality, the animals should live in the open country, they should have their freedom.

Well in some way, I feel bad for the animals being kept in captivity, but also on the other hand, it's good for them at least there are people who are taking care of them. It's also a good learning opportunity especially for the kids so that they will not depend on just books or the web, but seeing those animals in real life give them justice and an experience they will never forget.

This zoo is very helpful because it can save rare animals and as an affordable recreation place.
