I sold the project to my parents, we're going 50-50 on this.

It mihjt not seem big to you but for me, it's a large scale up. Only prior experience (from 7 days ago!) I have is my 6 x RX 580 rig.

I'll probably go for the Asus Z270-A again and use an SSD this time. Maybe a bit more RAM and a less shitty CPU because it's pretty laggy and I'd like to plot BURST with the thing.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions. Whattomine is quoting 2280W for the algorithms that are interesting, do you agree? In that case, maybe I'll go 1 x ATX + 2 x serveur PSU with breakout board?

for 6 x 580 cards you dont need anywhere close to 2200w of power.

The most efficient and cost effective way to power that rig would be a single 1600w plat+ rated psu (available from parrallelminer) + 180w atx pico adapter.

1 breakout board + 12 pci-e cables to power the cards.

I'm asking for the 12 x 1080 Ti.

(The first rig using AMDs is done already, single ATX)

2280 watts is not enough

also it is moron stupid to do 12x 1080ti's on 1 board.

get 2 boards  do 6 cards on each one

figure 6 x 200 = 1200 watts plus 100 for the mobo+cpu  = 1300 dc for each  setup.

very few atx  can give you the power you need .

I would get 3 of these

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hx-series-hx1200-1200-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu-na

with 3 of these

https://leiqing.en.alibaba.com/product/60707942149-803390961/China_New_Top_Sell_Bitcoins_Mining_Motherboard_With_12_PCIE_Ports_B250_Chipset_Intel_Manufacturer.html?spm=a2700.icbuShop.89.3.36b10622hDun4L

and read my thread on the 8 card mobo

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2674194.0

you end up with three    4 card builds  no risers  and easy trouble shooting.

you  can do 2 with smos and shit cpus
you can do 1 with windows and a solid cpu.

(The first rig using AMDs is done already, single ATX)

look, I have 7 x gtx1080ti and 2 PSU, one is server psu 2 kW and another is gold 500W psu
this system is stable  and working good, so 500W is powering risers and cpu ( dual core pentium) while server PSU is powering 7x gtxs
the gtx1080ti are set to PL80% and that is about 220-240W depends on algo, so it is about 1,7kw from 2 KW psu, it can handle it

I thought 200W per card was a reasonable asumption?

I thought 200W per card was a reasonable asumption?

if its 250 watts at 100 tdp.

I run them at 70 tdp for better efficienciy so .7 * 250 = 175 watts per card.  So ya 2100 watts for 12 gpus plus +100 for system coponents = 2200 watts

1200 watt power supply * 2 = 2400 watts power supply avialable

2400 divide by 2200 watts = 91 percent .  Ideally you want this number lower at 50-80 percent tops for max efficiency load.

So Maybe strictly running them at 60-65 tdp will work or a bigger power supply.  Wall outlets for 15 amp wont' go over 1800 watts so you'll need to plug them into two separate wall outlets on separate circuits. Or run a dedicated 220 volt for this setup.

I'm in Europe, I get 16 amps @ 230-235 V at any of my wall outlets.

Ideally, I'll try to find 2x 1300-1600 W server PSU + 2 x breakout boards + 1 x picoATX. Does that sounds okay enough, guys?

If things go south, I'll split it into two rigs but I'd like to avoid that.

Yeah, go with server PSUs. They work really well and don't cost a fortune. https://www.parallelminer.com/product-category/power-supply-kit/ have a look around Wink.

I had checked out parallelminer for ideas, never really considered buying from them, thinking the shipping would be crazy. But it's $57 to the old continent, pretty reasonnable.

Of course, when you add 30% of taxes on top of the $460, that's starting to be non-negligible...

I wonder if I could run three cheaper server PSUs.

It's 20% VAT and I assume there would be 10% import tax but it might be only 20%, depending on what category it's considered to be in.

Three server PSU, how would I sync them? Have all three starting up at the same time.

Are you thinking of getting Parallelminer 2400W server PSUs? Because they've been out of stock for a looong time and afaik may never source another supply of those.  Cry

I'm thinking about buying three of these:
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/1200W-Switching-Power-Supply-pour-GPU-Rig-Mining-Ethereum-BTC-ETH-DPS-1200FB-A-/162784502450

Or possibly 2 x 1200W and 1 x 750W (server as well)

Comments are welcome.

Cable-wise, what do I need to add?
One Pico ATX module, some 6-pin to sata ?
