The BBB is a scam.

Well, I've always knew they were, but many of you beg to differ. Around a week ago, I saw some member recommend TradeHill to join the BBB scheme. I was immediately shocked that such a geek-oriented community would trust the BBB to make business decisions with them.

Having an A+ rating does not necessarily mean that you are conducting your business with no problems, it just means you have a fat wallet ready to pay the BBB when complaints are filed.

I think this article will explain it to you.

let us be precise.

the BBB is not a 'scam' - it is a 'protection racket'.

BBB at this point in time is sadly still a super great investment for any business that wants to hit the general public audience.

They are like the mafia, they themselves are a scam, but, the masses don't know and educating them right now takes away from profits.  Word of mouth on what shit they are, but don't hate on a company for using them.

It has. The BBB provides worthless ratings and the market values them at approximately $0.

See lemonginger's post.  It is actually true.

You guys need to realize, the BBB SHOULD not have any value, but currently, it still does, the general market still considers hearing the letters 'B B B' as something that stands for authority and value.  We all know it's bull, but just go ahead and as your parents and grandparents tonight what they think.   Then take it the real general market and ask your neighbors.  You have been able to educate your own family, but they do not represent the general market.

I would say there are things to rectify it, but I say fuck it, the system is an old relic and the people who use the service most likely do not care about Bitcoin in the first place.

you seem to have an unusual definition of "the market".

are you limiting the market to "bitcoin users" or "technorati" rather than the general population of people who buy things?

I thought you were talking about one of the Bitcoin Rating sites.

at-least the usage of the word scam is almost correct.

Troll'n exhibit A) OP's starting this thread.

I made those statements on June 30th. And if I recall you made the same basic statement as this thread when I made those statements. I question why it is that you just now, two weeks later, started this thread. Need to pump those post numbers past 339? I guess just another person that cant let things go until everyone sees things the way they do.

What will you re-hash next?

I just got this newsletter in the email today. It reminded me of your post a week or two ago and I just had to post it.  Sad

So you posted a topic on the BBB in the bitcoin section of the forum. It looks like even with your 339+ posting you still do not understand the proper place to post an item.

Admin please move this BBB topic thread to the meta section.

Well then don' go by grades go by complaints.... If you're looking up a business in the BBB directory all the information is right there. Who's to say that the 11 complaints were valid and that they were deemed invalid?

A third party that can be bought off.

I have worked for two companies who have used BBB.  Both companies, while I would not consider them bad or shady, would deal with BBB in just that way, a shady way, pay it off, it's gone.  Promote that we are part of the BBB.  This was well over 5+ years ago, but seeing that 20/20 interview, it seems it is still just a minority that knows about them, but with the internet and information passing so quick they'll be gone in no time (those were my same words 5+ years ago, shit is changing, but at a snails pace it seems).
