I am sure that everyone that is into cryptocurrencies have heard about Pump & Dump groups. It's hard to avoid the ads from the Pump & Dump groups, especially if you are in any Telegram, Slack or Discord groups. The ads are often fake and manipulated facts on how successful they have been with earlier pump and dumps.

People joining these groups are thinking of earning some fast and easy money, but they don't know that they're the ones that are being fooled.

Let my explain:

The people behind the P&D groups creates two groups:
- A secret group for themselves (the admins). Let's call it the Admin P&D group
- A public group or fake secret group for the rest of the members. Let's call it the Open P&D group

The members of the Admin P&D group discusses which coin to pump next, when to do it, and how to do it. After that they start by buying big volumes of the coins, but in small fractions over several days, and sometimes even on multiple exchanges, just to be sure noone will notice it, and without pushing the price upwards.

Then they tell the members of the Open P&D group that they will announce the next pump like this: "The next pump will be announced in 8 hours", and they post this several times with a countdown. They will only announce on wich exchange it will happen so you have your Bitcoin or Ethereum ready.

Then when they announce the pump and how they want you to do it, you start buying the coins and pushing the price upwards. They also want you to share the news in different groups so people start buying it because they want you to believe people will join because of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), while in reality it's only the members of the group that are pushing the price, with help of some fake buy walls from the admins. The pumped coins value often gains 30-40 % or even double or triple the value in just a few seconds. When the price has been pushing a lot they dump all their coins on you, and when they have finished selling all their coins, you will be notified to sell yours. But when you get the message about selling, it's already too late and you will be left with the coins while the price dips back to the normal level.

Conclusion:

- The Pump & Dump groups are only made to help the people behind it, while the members are left behind with losses, and sometimes big losses. So be cautious and don't be fooled by these scammers. Never join any P&D group and if anyone asks about it, tell them how it works to prevent them from joining.

Do the people in these pump & dump groups have enough buying power? Unless we're talking about very minor coins with a 24h trading volume of about $40-50K; how can they influence any other bigger coins even the slightest bit? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Thanks for the feedback, I forgot to mention it above.

They usually pick coins with a low volume to be able to push the price to the maximum, unless they have a big group. Some Pump & Dump groups has 20 000 members or more.

Good information, I don't actually follow signals from pump and dump groups. Of course, I am aware that whenever signals were made those who usually gives out the signal were already able to buy their coin at cheap price and waiting for those who were late for the signal to buy it. And, of course, they dump ahead before sending out another signal to dump. So, most likely, pump and dump groups are just groups of market manipulators.

I'm watching on large Telegram group, they are pumping minor coins on Binance, it's usually takes only a few minutes.

I do agree with you, most of the pump of dump group are like a scam, and most of it do end well, one should be looking for to learn technical analysis and be an investos rather than looking for a quick flip

Great explanation.

Pump and Dump groups are made for using their members for pumping, but to make money only for the leaders.

The best one can do is just stay away Smiley

I couldn't agree more with this, and do think they're actually one of the wrong things going on in crypto right now. Hope this trend ends fast

That is why you should try to research more on other altcoins that really has the potential to be recognized and used, not just those that are used for investments and just die quickly. If you are a day trader then these groups might help you without even joining them, you can be lucky to gain profit while they are doing their things.

Agreed, everyone do yourself a favor and don't participate in the P&D groups, you will only get hurt in the long run.

You should understand that the pump and dump groups are a channel for coin-speculators to buy coins beforehand and to deliberately launch information on signal channels to push up coin prices. When you are buying at a high price, they are selling for profit. Often the pump, dump in these groups will get you some profit but may lose a lot of assets if the market goes down.

fool and stupid who join. You will finally be charge to join. And the charge is not small amount. I really don;t like such a group. I think you can trade normally make analisis to stable coins. Pump and dump group find new coins to be played and make the coin for their illicit profit.

I actually believe the groups have more "layers" than that. Some people actually pay to be in those groups, and depending on your membership you might get the information sooner. It's still a scam, and you will most likely lose money, either you pay for the group and then buy the coin, or if you just buy the coin. The admins of course, will always profit from this. I agree with you, and people should stay away from these groups. Even if they work a few times, it's not worth it, and even if they win money, it will be at the expenses of others, and that is wrong.

In telegram a pump group take my caution, they have a different method to hold people in their group. After all the pump's they will give random coins worth like 50$ or 100$ to people to hold them for make their community bigger. Their aim is find new prey's of course. Be careful and don't join these groups if you do not want to lost money.

I do not think that this will quickly stop, every day new people come to try to get rich. And for such groups this is a tasty morsel.

I'm also thinking the same way. There are Private and public P&D groups all over social media groups and have the same goal, to get profit by manipulating the market and its member who are just joining for free. Those on the private group are the most person who gains profit from public group. The safest way is to do your own research before trading and follow your instinct. We learn from failure, not from success.
You are completely right. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually are. Invest on your own and don't try to manipulate the market. You will probably lose a lot of you try.
