It seems that bitcoins have grown a whole lot since its inception. You can now buy server space, electronics, gambling, among other things...drugs... But there is something missing that you can not buy with bitcoins. The essentials. I believe that the next bitcoin frontier is farming. After farming for bitcoins becomes adopted people will be able to buy food with bitcoins. From then on the sky is the limit.

I'm somewhat confused. Are you suggesting selling food for bitcoin, or farming supplies? Or are you just a proponent of bitcoin closed loop economies?

That would actually be amazing! At my place, our grocery shops have auto-checkout, it would be amazing to have bitcoins has a payment option

Now that I've bought land I definitely plan to sell food for bitcoin. My farm will focus on high-quality, free range pork and chicken. When the food forest crops come in we'll have many kinds of berries and fruits, and eventually nuts.
I need something that I can ship out to internet customers. Any ideas?

I believe that the following points are applicable: - One of the advantages of Bitcoins over fiat currency is its relative anonymity of income
- Selling smaller volume, high-value agricultural products would best utilize the anonymity advantages
- Selling via the internet, with income via Bitcoin, would also utilize the anonymity advantages
- The advantages of Bitcoin income would be reduced if the possibility of selling for cash also exists

i think everyone is forgetting the big news that happened in april that caused the big $$ of bitcoin..
april was the month of
FOODLER
12k restaurants/fast food places accepting bitcoin, the biggest single mainstreaming achievement of bitcoin, all in one day.. and as the name of the site suggests it sells FOOD.
next thing is to help the canadians, british, and europeans.. by getting Just-eat.com to accept bitcoins. then the world can survive on food via bitcoins. (although just-eat is more of just evening fastfood/junk food type of places)
anyone suggest any fresh food/salad delivery services/ coffee services that have online payment/ordering options. please push them to accept bitcoin.
food home hygiene household bills
are the 3 main things that will make bitcoin an everyday use currency, and not a specialist item currency

Unless confirmation speeds decrease and arrive in the wallet of the reciever faster I doubt people will accept it as widely..

id stick to the stuff that you would usually find dry, like nuts, spices, seasonings, herbs(no not drugs, food flavourings) you know the stuff that wil last along time and will hold freshness.
meat requires refrigeration and cooking, slaughtering... basically alot of prep work.
you can make jams(you yanks call it jelly), peanut butter which lasts long time without much prep work.
think foodstore cupboards and pantry foods, as oppose to refrigerator food

Some great ideas here I have seen one guy selling honey on this forum. They even come in honeycomb six sided glass containers! Selling food products for Bitcoin is great, you have to keep in mind it has to be done on a local level for food that goes bad quickly. Nuts, honey, grains, jerky, coffee.... and others are great for shipping all over the US and world because they do not spoil easily (as franky said). Someone else mentioned essentials, that's a great idea... like a Bitcoin 99 Cents Only Store
