mining clients

im fairly new to the mining world  and not quite up to scratch at understanding bat. files and line command so im currently using Bitminter client with my block erupters.
what im wondering, is there any other pools that use their own client like bit minter? rather than using miners like bfg, gui etc. once im up to scratch understand how to use these then i will move onto them. but been a noob at the moment its easier to use bitminter.
also any other advice would be appriciated too in reguards to the mining world. i find it very interesting and now i know about the bitcoin forum i can give my wife and her ears a rest
