i have a msi 7970 and everytime i start it it overheats soon as i start it i'm running a waterblock so i don't know what to do can someone help me please or point me in the right direction please thank you

if it is overheating as soon as you start it (before mining) you need to reseat possibly with new thermal paste, the cooling block on the gpu properly.(assuming your w/c setup has liquid)
if it is when mining reduce clocks/intensity

What is overheating? Cores or VRMs? Post GPU-Z screenshot?

In any case as Graet says you most likely failed to attach the waterblock correctly or optimally.

Or you water flow rate is far too low (like a kinked tube somewhere or blockage). Or you have a slow flow rate AND a huge pocket of air in the block. But probably ^
