I am now using 2 online clients : blockchain and inputs.
2 years ago, I opened an accound with the linux qt-bitcoin client.

I still have my old bitcoin address, I think I may have the password back, so now what is the best way for me to try the password and reopen my wallet?  Do I really need to download a client on my computer, or can I test my password with some hashtests?

Thanks for your help.
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Thanks.
Unfortunately, I don't have the old wallet.dat, I only have the account address and an idea of the password...
I just realized that an account can have multiple address, so I guess knowing one address is pretty useless for me?

I don't intend to hack accounts... You can see my profile history on bitcointalk. My balance was around 0,06BTC as far as I can remember... sad but not so bad if lost.

One address is pretty useless, yeah. The password only encrypts your private keys, anyway - you'd need the actual wallet.dat (the encrypted private keys) so that you could decrypt the private keys to the addresses.
