I'm super interested in IOTA because of how ambitious of a project it is. I'm fairly new to the scene and would love to get some unbiased opinions on where IOTA is in its development, the feasibility of what they're trying to do, what exactly are they trying to do, and what they're having issues with...
Also, what are the implications if they succeed?

they try to outrun bitcoin. Their unique selling proposition is securyty, speed and energy-effishency even in the future world of quantum computing
