I am very surprised the simple solution is nowhere to be found though, perhaps it only works on catalyst version 11.6b and therefore is pretty fresh.

I'll chime in because I had this frustration a few days ago.

All I did was use Windows (not CCC) Desktop Properties / Settings. Then I clicked on the second monitor and checked "Extend my windows desktop to this monitor". That enabled the second monitor.

The downside is that I now have an extended desktop where I can only see half of the desktop. I am unable to find a solution to mirror or duplicate the desktop so that I do not have a phantom extended desktop.

My situation: I have an 5870 and a 5770. I couldn't select the 5770 from the GUIMiner device. What I did to fix my setup (5870+5770) is install 11.6b, then I could select the card. It´s as easy as that!
