Being the middle man? For 50 BTC I'll be your middle man for any bitcoin transaction! There's probably some market in it, who knows?!
edit: Send me a message on the forums or drop by on IRC if you need me!

A list of third party escrow agents in this thread for buyers to choose their own would be great. If anyone else wants to offer it merchants can just link to this thread. The escrow rate is 50 BTC. So far- Xunie

Yeah, I'll do it too.
50 BTC sounds like a fair rate.

What's required? Hold the BC until the buyer says they got the stuff? Proof of delivery with like a UPS tracking number?
If the first two aren't available I'll do it to help growth.
I can offer a proof of purchase to the escrow agent and proof of delivery can be provided by the buyer. This means they lose some anonymity but it is a trade off for more security. People are more accustomed to online trading these days.Even just having a third party verifying your credentials is a step forward.

As long as receiver confirms the transaction was successful there is no need for proof of delivery.
Not quite. Proof of delivery is the key here, so far as that the package actually was what was claimed. The role of escrow is to protect both the buyer and seller, and if the seller simply ships a box of popcorn, the purpose of the escrow is also to protect the buyer. That is one of the reasons for a "charge back" on credit cards, where if fraud is being committed that buyer can be protected. A credit card company acts as the escrow agent in that case. Of course you pay dearly for that service with a credit card, and so does the merchant. Merchants also tend to get screwed over in the relationship in many other ways too, so it would apply in this situation too. There is also shipping insurance, that would be above and beyond the escrow fee (or part of that fee) which would pay for the potential that the shipping agent failed to deliver the package. It happens more often than you think, and often for "innocent" reasons on the part of the shipper.

I'll do it for 1% of the BitCoins to be transferred. In case there's a dispute I can't solve, I'll favor whichever party can provide me with the most detailed personal information that I can verify is actually correct (a certificate signed by a trusted CA would be ideal). Then I'll give that info to the "losing" party so that they can attempt to find the other person and use the legal system. I have a PGP public key you can use when contacting me: Key-ID: 0x71CBB402 Fingerprint: C86E532351E341E3D0E7C49726E7944A71CBB402

Here's what I'll do: Say you want to do a transaction worth 20 bitcoins with Bob. Well, I'll first take a deposit of 30 bitcoins from both of you. When I hear back from both of you that the transaction went okay, then I'll refund your deposits. But, if I hear back from either of you that it went sour, then I keep both deposits . And best of all, no fee for my services . Let me know if anyone's interested!

I hang out in irc a lot. I like to think I'm fairly trustworthy. 1 bitcoin fee. I also go by ashadocat if you feel like stalking me. No their is no inherent trust. I'll see about setting up a legal corporation escrow service so you can, you know, sue me if I fuck up.

...and I'm ready to act as an excrow or notary for 1% of amount but less than 50 BTC
My pgp/gpg key is attached fingerprint: 3327 013B 2EE6 376B 1EC3 58EB E8D0 E01F 32AC F0EE
Also I have a gpg key with my real name. My messages with my real name signed by this key can be easily found in Google. This confirms that I am a real.

That's 8BTC to do 5000, but 25BTC to do 5001, intentional?

It's tough to make a sliding scale where one range doesn't overlap another unless you make a huge chart, so for the math to make more sense I changed the numbers around a little at the end.
